My Miserable 10 Cents

Dear Newbies & Oldbies of Graal2001,

I am tired of checking these forums for useless updates and finding that Graal's content continues become more and more boring.

This is my idea. WOOOOOOOOOOOOOW!

Graal2001 (...ca 2001!) is a thing of the past, yes. Everyone who played this already knows since they were there to play the server back in the day. However, it was an experiment and the first gold server/p2p or whatever else you want to call it. It was successful as an economy driven, optional roleplaying, group questing, event plentiful playerworld. These are the facts.

Bring back all of this. You can add minor/major updates from time to time, but whatever is changed, don't let it effect the elements and factors that made Graal2001 the server that it was! People played because they were eager to buy rare hats, popular bomy-bopots, playerhouses, and work for the things they wanted. It was fun making friends through questing and adventuring into a nearby kingdom's territory. There was something for everyone.

Kamuii was the best manager for Graal2001. I remember how he'd make an organised list of "News & Updates" in one simple thread to let everyone know what was going on. The staff was strong, ideals were great, but Stefan flocked to Graal2002's progress and let G2k1 die slowly. That's what really happend.

Anyways, I am done rambling. That is my 10 cents. I miss playing Graal2001. It was the best playerworld in my opinion and always will be, because I actually miss it in an akward way.

Much Love,
Kasuagi

Torankusu 04-12-2003 01:00 AM

Agreed.

And I will miss it in an awkward way.

I'm touched, really, but you flatter me. :)

Dude6252000 04-12-2003 01:29 AM

See, it's not Kamoo's fault, it's that Stefan had the wonderful idea of screwing over his creative, fun, new-every-day server to make a seen everywhere online, crappy, hack and slash MMORPG. :\ You don't know how much I'd kill to see Kingdoms die, and 2001 revive.

magicbud3344 04-12-2003 02:38 AM

yeah graal2001 was gwate

Jeff 04-12-2003 02:41 AM

...this is exactly what I tried to do with the reset.

People were clamoring for stuff the first couple weeks, but I think roleplaying became too big and people quit working :(

magicbud3344 04-12-2003 02:43 AM

it was good but in others eye's graal2002 was still better :X

No...not enough roleplaying...back in the day people also were around mainly to RP...which explains why 98% of the people that played back then was in a kingdom.

More Roleplaying, Less Economy.

Googi 04-12-2003 03:12 AM

Kamuii couldn't get us good staff, Jeff can't get us good staff. We need some good staff, then, yes, we need to finish the Bomy Battling script.

Kramer 04-12-2003 10:42 AM

any good programers out ther that want to make a new game with the concepts of old graal 2001? maybe if there wasn't a choice, people would come to 2k1...

brock128 04-12-2003 03:09 PM

Kamuii > Jeff. Sure, Kamuii was never on, but at least stuff got done. And he actually told the public what was going on.

Dude6252000 04-12-2003 04:11 PM

I'm becomign more anti-Jeff everyday. I mean, I like Jeff as a friend, but I don't think he's really fit for a manager.
"...this is exactly what I tried to do with the reset.

Not true. There wasn't nearly any RPing after the reset, everyone was clamoring to get money and buy the bomys that you auctioned almost every day. And we kept working. You never exactly gave us much things to work on.

Tseng 04-12-2003 04:34 PM

You know, I've said this so many times.

A reset + the kingdoms being brought back would ONLY bring back people for a short while.

They HAVE TO BE SHOWN HOPE. They have to be shown new things.

Additionally, the economy HAS to be fixed before a reset can successfully occur...you shouldn't have people with 500+ gralats a week after a reset, I'm sorry, but that's true. Gralats should be VALUABLE. Not dirt cheao like they were before the reset ;X

Like I've said before- EVERYTHING THAT MAKES A GRALAT has to be looked at.

Until you do? The economy will always tank.

Not to mention the almost constant bomy auctions...

Why were such large things ignored such as playerhouses and villas?

Those are supposed to better drain money from the economy anyway...with a constant, weekly payment.

As for RPing? I heard people had a great time with that.

They just got bored.

I could say more, but you know what? I don't feel like sharing all of how the server can be fixed.

Remember, people. Not only am I inactive, but Jeff ran more efficiently after I quit being comanager :D

Kuza 04-12-2003 06:14 PM

People played G2k1 because it was fun and there weren't wacky updates that threw you off or came out of the clear blue. It's perfectly fine to update a server with new hats, new bomies, and the alike because it's purely content that is being added anew. However, toying with the elements that acted as cornerstones and held together the glue that kept everything in place is proposterous!

The best thing to do at this point is tell the public the truth, let them know what's going on and make them feel like they're a part of this community instead of neglected players of a past memory that still lingers on for what reason, hope that it will come back. That hope has been kept alive for this long so that has to mean something. All I am asking, personally, is to bring Graal2001 back to the point of its existance in which people played to have fun, participate in events, build the economy, pk, roleplay, etc.

I say, work on a new overworld, but keep everything the same and just rebuild it from scratch. That way it's all new, but everyone is familiar with the surroundings still. It's basically like an update that updates everything. Improve the levels, scripts, ideas, and give us a reason to keep our hope high and dry. It's not that hard of a concept to grasp, really.

Jeff, if you can't handle the task of being manager, allow someone else to fill in the empty space. I want to see G2k1 as the paramount it is, not some 0 populated trend of the past. It doesn't deserve that.

Graal2001 still has a chance in my eyes as well as several other players who constantly check for updates and news, glimmers of hope that tomorrow might be the day... G2k1 came back.

It should not, and never should have a economy, NOBODY wants to work hours on end making a few gralats. Working isn't NOT fun SO STOP DOING IT. Make Roleplaying more available and stop shoving it into a corner at every turn! Graal2001 should have a major roleplaying enviroment, people want to play Graal2001 for ROLEPLAYING. But oh wait, the staff is lazyer than on Era, and suck at everything they do.

Jesus Jeff just find someone who can do a better job at hiring, managing, and whatnot, because right now you are more or less killing Graal2001.

Dude6252000 04-12-2003 08:09 PM

I agree with the bottom line, ghostie, but I honestly think there still should be an economy. It just shouldn't be THAT big of a part in the game. But if we made it all RPing, there would be no events for prizes worth winning, no marketplace to sell/trade items with others, and it would just turn into another Valikorlia.

Well you don't understand meaning of all RPing...you could still have a markplace to sell/trade, as for events, they will be slightly modified to more a group activity with everybody capable of taking home some bacon. For example: King of Dust...Inra makes a open request for someone to hunt down mutant frogbeast that is bring terror to his lands, kill sheep, leaving nasty piles of goo, and giving his people disease. All for the prize of $XXXX, or if you want to make it really cool, some sorta momento or prize item.

Dude6252000 04-12-2003 08:17 PM

But..but..I'd miss just normal events :( See, I think it shoudl have the RP events like you said, and then for non-RPers more into the economy or community, there should still be normal events, like CS and etc.

Googi 04-12-2003 08:22 PM

I think that there should be both RPing and an economy, but they should be totally seperate, no kingdom funds. And have a "team" dedicated to RP-related development, and a seperate "team" dedicated to economy-related development.

Ghost Pirate 04-12-2003 09:05 PM

Well throw all the Events into a dream world.
And players could goto a bed and sleep and goto the dream world filled with events...keeping your non RPers and non RP events in one area not disrupting the real RP world.

A kingdoms fund should be allowed but modifed, instead of in a npc, its thrown into a kingdom vault, which other kingsoms can blow open and steal from. I'm unsure why economy is so important to you people in a server which offers nothing other than little 5 mins joys.

--Chris-- 04-12-2003 10:02 PM

Kingdoms is suppose to be what Ghost Pirate's idea of rping is but look at how it turned out x.x Main reason: The players.

Rping on 2k1 would always be better cause of the enviroment and the little to be lost in deaths and such, making it rp only won't make the server any better..if anything it would screw it over. People would rp just as much with the economy there. The economy is like an extra and removing it won't make things any different.

Kingdoms isn't what my idea of Rping is...its Graals idea...I can roleplay with or without a kingdom doesn't matter.

Discharge 04-13-2003 04:20 AM

Yes, there is no doubt that role-playing in Graal2001 was surpassingly finer and more enjoyable then our so called role-playing server known as Graal Kingdoms.
In response to the economy issue, couldn’t we involved money into role-playing? We could have an upper class and lower class population. However, considering that role-playing is horrible in Graal Kingdoms because we work more then we role-play. Working to get money can cause role-playing problems. Nevertheless, we need major new updates to the server if we want to draw back the role-playing community to Graal2001. I also believe we need remove those foolish hats, instead offer shields, helms and weaponry not to improve your damage or protection but for looks to compliment your characters appearance according to his character.

I know what went wrong with graal2001 - stupid jobs - stuff added without people knowing - usless crap that no one ever uses - just a bunch of crap - no roleplaying - promised stuff never came out - other stuff such as making milk or gralat farming or just stuff thats never used - you know when a girl wears too much makeup it makes them dead ugly? - graal2001 is the hotgirl thats wearing too much makeup...make it alot less cluttered - take out the diamond hammer - birdbird fuxed up the hat thing terrably (what stefan did was perfect) - more use for bomys - no more sucky minigames - EVERYTHING you add has to be top notch quality (the rifles game sucked)

It was originally not supposed to be a minigame. =\ The rifles were designed by Jackal at the request of Malak and I, for use in RPing.

Then I left for four days on family stuff, came back and found that they had been scripted into a minigame.

We were working on making it just a normal weapon-type-thing, but we'd have to tone down it's power if we want to make it a global, normal weapon. If it was for RPing, well, okay, that would be easy to script, and the bullets should be doing a lot of damage, anyways. If it was a normal weapon, though, people would probably never use the sword again.

cloudstrifevii 04-13-2003 05:15 PM

The funny thing is alot of my friends said they liked NewMain alot better than kingdoms. But they wont play unless we have alot of players. Players make the server (and every other server) fun, ****ies or not. And 2002 has sucked in everyone from Newmain...I dont know why they like a server so much that all you do is mindlessly level for hours. I dont play there anymore. I stopped right before Alpha ended and right when kingdoms went up.

Tseng 04-13-2003 06:12 PM

Graal2001's death can be traced back to several key elements.

I have listed them all before; I do not feel like listing them again ;X.

Then make it require bullets to work. and to make bulliets you could use crafted iron.

Xeph0ria 04-16-2003 12:39 AM

Something some of you don't seem to realize - NOT EVERYONE can make it into a kingdom. So to rebuild 2k1, you should NOT make it all about being in a kingdom. Though you shouldn't neglect kingdoms either.

I think the main problem with 2k1 is that it was all based around working. Everything good was so expensive, and the jobs gave so little. You'd have to WORK for HOURS to even have a decent amount of money.
It was fun collecting hats, so they should still be sold, but there shouldn't be so few amounts of each type of hat. Maybe only 1 really rare hat that there is only a few of, but it shouldn't be where a common hat price is 100+ (it takes a few hours to make that much) and hat restocks should've been more common.
And there is no such thing as too many hats. Hats add more customization to how your character can look, and this is a GOOD thing.
So, 2k1 should have every single hat in existance, because this is a good thing and adds more. Also, there is no such thing as 'too many jobs' unless the jobs are BAD/useless (Fishing is useless, but fun..)
Jobs need to be equal. This makes a server more fun. IT IS NOT FUN to have to make choices like 'Do I want to go make MORE money doing something I hate, or make next to nothing for the same amount of time doing something that is more fun?'
All jobs should make the same or around so that people can do what they want, not have to worry about which one makes the most.

I think I might be ranting and going off topic, so I'll end this here.

[edit- And add Pirates back. I played 2k1 until it was removed. kthx]

Kaiser2 04-27-2003 12:51 AM

My idea:
No jobs, instead you get your money from bushes and enemies should drop more than 1 gralat, maybe like 20. Shops should have unlimited amounts of hats, and hats should be cheap, that way, you can get everything in a few days and spend the rest of your time RPing with people, making friends, Events should give special prize NPCs (like GSF had belts) except instead of having someone spar someone else to get the item, there could be an nlimited amount, so theoretically, anyone could get it, and anyone could compete.

youve g ot it the wrong way around dude you need limited hats so you wearing a certain hat while rping respresents something instead of "Wow he is wearing this hat...its not special because everyone has it" :/
