Kingdoms levels have simple detailing, they should be easy. The houses are NPC's, the lights, etc. The only thing is the actual ground.

Yes its easy becuse the way that Stefan made it. I wish it was made different so itd be east sometimes.

draygin 01-14-2003 06:27 PM

The level isnt that good. The lamps are more of a castle style where as you are using straw huts. If they could make stone lamps dont you think they would have stone houses as well? The pot of boiling water doesnt make any sense. Would be better if it was away from the house a bit with a fire. The leading to the house on the right is to straight on the right side of it. Other npc's look hastily slapped together with out much thought. I would put more thought into what you're placing and where to give it all a smooth over all appearance so it looks natural like its supposed to be together rather than odd objects that dont fit in with any particular color theme or coordination.

Want to amaze us, and be cool? Make your own 3d Terrain Tileset then chuck a level together with it, that would be cool.

these were made before the main island was released.

Yes yes but see Bird Bird the difference is you was told how I did this with no acess to Graal forums or Graal Kingdoms. ( I still like your levels )

Birdbird_0 01-15-2003 03:18 AM

all it is, is ineditor gmap edidting (you see a yellowish grid to control hights)

and image placement.

2k2 levels (outside, and inside too)

are mainly just Image placement.
Talent is having a good eye and compisitional skils

Hey um Kramer that looks nice but the house is all dented. Help me relize how that is? Thats why 2002 uses npc houses.

draygin 01-15-2003 10:33 PM

So because something in a game doesnt make sense that makes it ok for your own work not to make sense?

Birdbird is a great level maker. If you look all of his levels have themes general color scheme's not a clash of bright then dark colors but colors all in the same general area. He also does his best to make things look natural. Like if you where walking down a road and saw something it wouldnt stand out as ackward in where it was.

To be a truly great level maker you have to see these things. You have to be able to see it in 3d as if it was real how it would look all angles matching etc.. technology all in the same time period. Not a guy pulling a cart with a cyborg dog walking next to him etc.. It's part of what seperates the masters from the Amateurs.

I'm not trying to knock on your levels. I'm trying to help you increase your skills.

I bet you could actually use a 2d tile set with a 3d terrain. Provided you made sure the gmap was all at the same elevation where you had buildings. It would be difficult but I would think possibly. Would be quite interesting to see.

I was actualy thinking about doing that a while ago with the tileset.

Using the ground tiles and editing them slightly to go good with the gmap levels.

And using the normal tileset to create 2d objects to be placed as npc images.

But too much work k.

its all about the composition of the level.

Ok let me simplify what I was saying to make it easier for you to understand. pics1.png using a 3d terrain. I was explaining how it would be possible. kingdoms doesnt use a 2d tile set. The whole tile set is designed to be 3d Example all buildings are actually NPC's. With the idea I was explainng you would use tiles for houses and not npcs. Understand what I was saying now? :)

Acererak 01-19-2003 02:40 AM

lol, that level was me just playing around with gmaps, finally got the hang of it, wasn't trying to make it realistic.
