2k1 is now a ghost town

2k1 has became a ghost town i dun see one soul on there only the npc server for like the past week no more than 4 ppl for like the past month

Vyse_the_Blue_Rogue 11-08-2002 07:43 PM

The reset..the cause of this.
The reset..the solution to this..

RESET IT ALREADY

Jeff 11-08-2002 10:21 PM

On behalf of the staff of newmain, I can tell you that most --if any-- of us have no idea about when the reset will be, if there even will be a reset, or anything else.

SaitoHajime 11-08-2002 10:38 PM

My best estimate is that, IF it happens, it will be at LEAST 2 months. I base this solely on progress I can see...which coincidentally happens to be little! Hopefully konidias can finish his systems soon and perhaps give us something to do, becuase he's given us two very mutually barring statements.

Before the dev server went up, it was "When the dev server comes out, you will no longer work at the newmain server, and only work at the dev server."

And now that we have the dev server, it's "You are not allowed to add ANYTHING. Weapons, NPCs, classes, etc., without sending it to me first.

I want to add the display system I designed for 2k1 eventually(currently about half done, would need some rescripting to work on the dev server), but neither Kamuii or Konidias has taken the time to take a look at it, even though I have asked both of them more than once, and the most recent time I asked was about weeks ago. I don't like bugging people, so I haven't asked more than twice.

So, yeah. That's why it's a ghosttown. Staff are confused as to what to do. Personally I stay at the main server and work on things there, in hopes to eventually get it released on the dev server, so I'm at least remaining productive.

--Chris-- 11-08-2002 10:39 PM

i would say reset is only about 30% of the cause...the other 70% is 2k2 and the fact 2k1 is still a p2p server when there's an immediately more intriging p2p server *cough*

SaitoHajime 11-09-2002 08:08 AM

2k1 can still be p2p and attract the same amount of people, Chris. The problem is it is BORING RIGHT NOW. There is nothing to do, nothing to work on, and nobody to trade with.

If by some miracle 50 people started playing it again, then it would instantly become popular again, because there are people to interact with. That interaction is what keeps the server alive.

Game gets boring. Some players leave. There are less people to interact with. It gets more boring. More players leave. Even fewer people to interact with. Even more boring. Cylce continues.

--Chris-- 11-09-2002 09:00 AM

yes but everyone that played before has joined 2k2...the majority of them aren't coming back. as for newbies, they would most likely logon with the small population...see nothing interesting as it is their 1st time there and then logon to 2k2...see the leeter gfx and stuff and say "OMG ISH ARE BE 1337ER, 1 ARE 5TAY H3RE,K"

Waltz5 11-09-2002 09:23 AM

To be able to reset, we must get ready for the reset, which we aren't allowed to do.

I've been busy the past week and a half with life stuff and school. :[

You should learn to bug me, I get things done faster that way.

Vyse_the_Blue_Rogue 11-09-2002 09:42 PM

I know that even most staff don't know anything about the reset..
I'm going to say that Konidias doesn't appear to know what he's doing..

--Chris-- 11-09-2002 09:45 PM

kam00m00's life issues - *watches kam00 stump his toe* =P

MrCharles 11-09-2002 11:02 PM

I still go on 2k1. Alone.

Its also because 2k2 came and shot 2k1 in the head then stabbed it will a dull butter knife until it was just a bleeding pulp.

Reset won't happen for a long time because we're doing everything we have to do BEFORE the reset.

At the current time, anyways, things are being held up by the new bodies so that we can get to work on customization.

I hate bugging people, but if you say so :-\

Kitiara2k1 11-10-2002 05:00 AM

like how long is a long time?

SaitoHajime 11-10-2002 09:40 AM

My best estimate is a couple months. I have very little to base it on, so who knows. It could be tomorrow (Except for the fact that certain conditions have to be met before we can even BEGIN major work on it, and that hasn't happened, so it won't be tomorrow), it could be a few months.

*calls for koni*
how are the body sprites going upto now? :P

konidias 11-10-2002 08:45 PM

I've been busy preparing everything so that the 2k1 staff won't have to worry about all the preparation stuff, such as planning, new bodies, etc.

I've also sort of taken a break from Graal for a week, so I haven't gotten much done in the past 7 days. I'm only human guys. :P I am estimating the new 2k1 will be ready at the end of this year, or the start of next. Which is less than two months. Meaning there will not be a reset before Christmas.

I don't see any reason why 2k1 staff can't do something like an armageddon on current 2k1 until that point, that is, if everyone feels they want to do that. However, I'm going to need those staff for the revision when it comes down to crunch time, so it would probably be better just to free your time.

We know you're only human.. but could you leave around a log or something about whats going on like.. I don't know.. every week or so? :\ Its kind of frustrating (for lack of a better word) to not know anything.

Spark910 11-11-2002 01:16 AM
