You cannot open the editor in the online mode

Why not?

I have all necessary folder rights. I don't see why I should have to have a second graal client running, when one should be enough. Stefan, go code it so we can edit levels online :D

osrs 09-07-2002 01:04 AM

Its not very important to do...

Tyhm 09-07-2002 02:07 AM

Maybe when the editor is a standalone. The trouble is people running something in the editor, and that script continuing in online mode...

haunter 09-07-2002 10:13 PM

I just open up the file manager, and double click an .NW/.Graal file and the editor opens up, and as long as you keep the file manager window open, when you click save, it re-uploads the new version of the level.

That's what I usually do. :p

It's the best way

Tyhm 09-07-2002 11:43 PM

Hm. Maybe if pressing F4 in-game sent a message to RC, and RC took that to mean doubleclick that file...that would be safe, nee?

Graal2001_LAT 09-08-2002 02:05 AM

Here is my problem. :( My .graal/.nw files aren't associated with the graal.exe, so I go to add them (open with) and when I select graal.exe it disallows it for some reason. It's because in the program list I already have Gani Editor and Terrain Editor, and it seems to not ant to add a third...

If I double click them from a folder, they will open. If I try and open them from RC it doesn't have a program listed to open it with. :(

Dach 09-08-2002 03:25 AM

I tried to associate them with Graal.exe, but it just opens a blank level named "my ". Anyone willing to give the correct actions for opening the files?

Tyhm 09-08-2002 03:25 AM

So open the editor and drag+drop

If I do that, it does not reupload when I save :(

Yes, I can just double click the levels, but a second Graal client slows down my system. It's just uncomfortable to work with two clients.
Also, it should not be too hard to have the Graal client work with the same security stuff as RC does. Warpto seems to be pretty secure and stuff.

I thought it was just like PATHTOGRAAL\Graal.exe "%1" or something.

Try deleteing all file associations w/ graal.exe and re-associating them?

Nope, it doesn't work like that.

gokux33 09-09-2002 01:17 AM

Graal has problems opening files or files in folders that have spaces in their names. This is only when you're associating them with the .exe, but if you open the editor THEN open the levels, it will be fine.

emortylone 09-09-2002 10:13 AM

That would pose a problem for a couple of things.
1) When you hit 'F4' and view the level while in online mode, are you still connected to the server, and ifso, where @ and such, how would you continue playing??
2) What if you saved the level instead of scrapping it b/c you messed up... not good...

2) What if you saved the level instead of scrapping it b/c you messed up... not good... the problem exsists in rc too, but it shouln't necissaraly be a problem unless you suddenly develope a case of stupid

1) It could just put you in a pause mode, I think :P Or it could just make you invisible/untouchable and pause all your NPC scripts. Should not be too hard.
2) Same with RC.

emortylone 09-09-2002 11:14 PM

1) That is crazy... then you could just be dead there and taking up more space and creating lagg x.X You would have to completely leave the server really... perhaps if it opened up in a different window??
2) Just like RC? x.X If you upload something into RC you know it should be good x.X And I have not gotten the whole edit tyhing to work properly. I always have to download and then reupload. but good point Loriel.

Tyhm 09-10-2002 12:21 AM

It should pause you and open the editor as a seperate program

emortylone 09-10-2002 12:29 AM

I could see that working... if you have levels FTP for that though might be a bit trickier. Perhaps it would just be a right that would allow you to open levels. Like 'Online Level Editing' or something...?

intagrate the editor into the rc program, as well as being able to use the editor whail appering online, but with all the editor properties, and after you're done editing, simply click upload, or upload and save, it saves it to a folder, and from the file ither in the folder or temperary memory, it uploads it to th eserver.

I dont think its a security issue, since you need the correct rights pass and account to acess rc.

emortylone 09-10-2002 12:49 AM

It would run SOME risk x.x

Yes, a small RC editor would be good. You don't need to load all the stuff you need for playing the game, so it would be faster to edit a level directly from RC.

R0b1n-NPC 09-16-2002 02:08 AM

or just make the rc load it up in notepad if you just wanna edit the npcs

I'd like to fix small tiling errors very fast, and so I need a small editor.
And you'd have to extract the NPCs out of the .graal file into a .txt file and vice-versa.

emortylone 09-16-2002 10:50 PM

R0bin and I are partial to the NPC stuff :P I think that it would be good to add something so you can JUST edit the NPCs. If you need to edit the level then just open it. But NPCs you should be able to do seperately. It would be UBERLY leet.
---Shifter

Graal2001_NAT 09-16-2002 11:58 PM

r0bin, you can do that by just editing your computers folder options to make it open word pad when you open .nw files (basically double clicking them on the RC file browser)

emortylone 09-17-2002 06:04 AM

x.X i've done that, but it isn't quite the same. You don't have the whole visual aspect of it, and you can EASILY screw up the entire level x.X Plus you don't have the format and it's a BISH to read!
---Shifter

konidias 09-18-2002 12:45 PM

Online editing is like a major security risk. Editing levels from online mode was disabled because cheaters found a way to edit their current level to add npcs to the online level.

emortylone 09-18-2002 10:50 PM

That is a good point. I've seen them editing levels and doing baddies. FORTUNATELY all the wanna-be "hackers" of Graal don't know enough about scripting to do anything. If they had an skillz @ all they could do damage, LMAO

But when you add it to the RC it wouldn't hurt, would it?

emortylone 09-20-2002 08:15 AM

Ah, the RC is quite frequently hacked, and it wouldn't be hard to recode it or reengineer parts to make it screw things up x.X

That doesn't make sense. I can already download and upload files using the RC. So when I double click on a .graal file it would download it, start the connected program (graal.exe) and when I closed the program it would upload it. That is already working.
All I want is that instead of starting a huge program containing things I don't need for editing (like playing the game, connection to the server, sound, etc) I want a very small editor included in the RC so it would be faster to open a file.
Note: it would not open new ways or would make things more unsafe, it would just make things faster.
