A question about copyrightism.

Now, I understand GFX. And sound. But I don't see how Ganis and guilds can be copyrighted. That's like saying Universal makes a movie that has people shooting other people in it, and then Columbia Pictures comes and says that it is illegal because they made a movie with that first.
Also, it seems to me most games don't care if they have Turks(to name one) as a guild or not. The MSN Gaming Zone has tons of clans that are in their database that are copyrighted. Nobody bothers them. And nobody will bother you guys. They won't care.

Torankusu 07-18-2002 01:13 AM

copyright ganis?

Do you mean, ganis specifically made for another playerworld? And one just comes up and takes it without asking?

And, Guilds. Trademarks. They are not allowed.

(jedi, sith, turks, etc)

He means like a scene from a movie acted out with gani's I think..?

Minoc 07-18-2002 01:16 AM

The word "Turks" is not copyrighted =\

Trademark, copyright, whatever. All I know is that it did have some relation to a Final Fantasy (I was told by three or four people).

There were "Turks" in FF7, that doesn't mean they created it x_X
I think people from Turkey are Turks \=

I understand that, but it was based off of the FF7 turks.

Ask the leader(s).

You can't 'copyright' works, you trademark them, if you patent the title 'The Simpsons it can't be used as a company or business name and such. Blah blah, i don't know what this thread is actually trying to prove.

Minoc 07-18-2002 04:23 AM

By the way, I sent that (Shayde.)

They would know what it meant though :(. just trying to help because the Turks were a good guild.

fugitive316 07-18-2002 05:06 AM

I think the question was more geared toward asking why an Online video game has to limit what Guilds can be named because of laws.

I think it's a pretty valid question. I mean, I can register Crayola.com but can't have a guild named Crayola. (Hypothetically)

ww3 already happened, where have you been in the past 17 years

thesaiyan 07-18-2002 10:36 AM

The term Turks didn't come from FF. Ever heard of Turks, people from the country of turkey? Ottoman turks also. You can't copyright a term that has been around since the medevil times.....

But I understand what you mean when you said, " Its based from FF."

Googi 07-18-2002 10:40 AM

Leaders shoulda lied and said it was based on Turkey.

screen_name 07-18-2002 10:59 AM

would this be like saying if someone in the world had a name of
Kenny McCormick then they could get sued by south park ??

True. But this is graal. Most people don't actually use their heads when they think. They just want to be cool and have a copyrighted name. Fight the system! :p

There was no letter saying that we would have a lawsuit, where did you even hear that from? I chose not to put it back up with the New Delteria because we did not want anyone trying to complain about copyrights and try to get us shut down.
