Era's New Inventory

Players of Era:

Great news for everyone whose been using the inventory we've been working on. It's finished. The latest update includes being able to drag & drop items.

Features:

-Sorting w/ tabs.
-Re-naming tabs by right clicking a tab of your choice (you cannot re-name the "All" tab).
-Changing background color.
-Searching for items.
-Drag & Drop (you can also drop by right clicking items).
-"X" toggle keeps the inventory open (certain menus will auto toggle it).
-Similar items are classified by color.
-Item quantity is included within the box.
-I've included walk speed/strength/weight as well.
-Double clicking items will equip them.

You're all still very welcome to provide feedback and possible suggestions for new features.

Note:

-The new inventory will soon be the default, but you can always go back to the original.
-Guns are gray.
-Hotkey's are purple.
-Hat's are orange.
-Food/Healing items are red.
-Selected Item will be green.
-Clicked Items or selected items are yellow.
-Odd Ball Items are blue.
-Later on I will allow players to choose their own colors.

To use the inventory simply say /inventory.

I believe another scripter edited the tutorial to make hackers have to complete the tutorial every time they login. It's hilarious.

must admit this looks like an improvement

Fiberwyre_P2P 04-07-2014 03:01 PM

Nicely done.

I'm just going to suggest a feature that was part of my original concept for a new inventory, which was an easier way to assign guns/items to hotkeys by just hovering the mouse over whatever it is you want to assign and pressing the hotkey you want to assign it to.

Hey Fiber, I actually looked your post up you made a while ago and will incorporate that in later this week. I'll also add a little indicator in the top right corner indicating which weapon is assigned to a key. Another update I'm looking forward to is the mini tutorial to teach players basic usage/tools.

Opinion: what would you guys think if I replaced the right-click menu with a stats window (gun stats)?

Nice to finally see some modernization and advancement in the server.

No, I'm not talking about Zodiac.

What about being able to see how much time you have left on potions?

There's a potion in everyone's "All" tab, you can sort it wherever you'd like to put it. You just click it to open up the potions menu.

It seems you thought of everything.

How about being able to rearrange the order of the tabs by dragging them around?

Actually no. You can re-name them all except the "All" tab, but that's about it.

Thanks man, here's a quick tutorial video I put together. I still get a lot of players who are a bit confused by the new inventory.

One of the things I've removed was the color in each slot, it's very confusing apparently, I will still work on allowing custom colors for items to fit each player's needs later on though. An update I'm working on will allow custom inventory sizes (I've gotten complaints that it's too big).

What? It's **** like this that results in bugs not being fixed. What exactly did you experience?

fowlplay4 04-20-2014 05:02 PM

From outside looking in:

1. You should make an 'auto-sort' so people don't have to manually move items into tabs before they can take advantage of the new system.
2. You seem to have hold Q to keep the inventory open -- probably a bug.
3. You should implement some kind of keyboard navigation, and/or make the search field a firstresponder so I can press Q then type in guns or whatever to find what I'm looking for without having to click the search field with my mouse.

I have to type /inventory twice every time I login to remove it, the first time it says 'Added the New Inventory' even though I already have the new one.

:\

Should just be a toggle under the options menu, tired of dying cause I can't find my icecream every 5 minutes when we get d/c from Graal.

Yeah, an auto-sort might be worth doing. Holding 'Q' to keep the inventory open was done on purpose. Your last suggestion would be useful, but since you have to hold 'Q' it wouldn't really work.

It's definitely worth doing, you must have some sort of categorization that you can do to do a pre-sort for people instead of forcing them to organize it themselves from the get go.

It seems counter-intuitive to me and annoying. Were you not annoyed by the fact you had to hold down Q for 2 minutes while you made that video?

I think something like this would work better:

1. If they press Q and don't hold it, leave it open, and use Q to close it again.
2. If they hold Q (> 0.2 seconds), close it when they let go.

Just hit the X and the inventory stays open. That should give you plenty of time to sort your stuff one time.

Every other server has the same functionality of holding Q for inventory, given you only use a mouse to operate everything within the inventory I really don't see where your problem is.

It would be even more annoying if I had to double-tap Q to use it honestly. This is a fast paced server where you quickly select a item then switch back with hot-key, not search your inventory for the cutest item to use.

Tim_Rocks 04-20-2014 09:59 PM

Thanks for the advice, before I logged off today I was able to get an auto sort feature done. I just have to make a GUI option for it in the options "gear".

I only held 'Q' for no more than 30 seconds in the video. As Rogue stated, there's a 'X' lock to keep it open.

Why not have an item bar then so you don't have to go through the inventory at all?

Like I said holding Q it would function how you're used to but if you only tapped Q once it would open and stay open till you tapped Q again.

The only server that uses the Q hold system is GK while other servers use a Q toggle.

We really don't want to confuse the simple minded players of Era by changing how to open their inventory. Originally I had made the new inventory to do just that, but I got a lot of negative feedback that changing it from holding 'Q' to a toggle was just too confusing.

On a positive note, I did include an automatic sort feature in the "gears" option. Alpha is also new, it just let's you change the transparency of the inventory.

in 2 minutes i found 2 bugs so i didn't bother to keep on using it:
1. it said i had X Desert Ravens whilst i have 2
2. when i take my finger off Q it still stays open if i'm on the search, which is terribly unpractical for PKing

ill try again in a couple of weeks hoping it becomes useful and not just better looking than the old inventory

shrimps 04-21-2014 11:07 AM

It says X because that's your hotkey for that weapon.

I'm not saying get rid of Q-hold. I'm saying a single Q key stroke with no hold should toggle the menu open.

LOL, those aren't bugs. The 'X' over your gun is telling you that it's hotkey'd. The reason it's staying open is because the other 'X' is locking the inventory open. If you hovered over your deagle it would say it's exact amount...

Oh that's a great idea, fowlplay. I didn't realize that's what you were referring to. Then I can get rid of the confusing 'X'.

Just updated the inventory with your code, that works so much better. Great idea.

Clicking Sort seems to close the inventory window, holding Q while clicking Sort causes the Inventory window to no longer open.

I fixed that one specific bug, but I have to update a couple other things later (My connection atm keeps disconnecting). I'll be removing the 'X' toggle too for obvious reasons.

Edit: I fixed up a lot of the odd ball bugs I could find. The search bar seems to act up randomly while you hold 'Q'.

Thanks for the advice again, so far I've gotten a lot of good feedback on this addition.

Okay, so a few improvements were made tonight.

http://i60.tinypic.com/qp3tcg.png

-Item slot's were updated; there was a rare bug that placed blank slots in between items.
-I've included a new hotkey system in the inventory. It functions a little more conveniently in my opinion. You just drag items to the weapons tab and sort them between the first three slots.

Note: Items w/ red backgrounds are invalid hotkey binds.

-Items now save their locations even when they're dropped or lended.
-The default name for the "All" tab has been changed to "Unsorted" since all your items aren't actually in the last tab.

I believe that's the most recent updates. As always, let me know if you come across any bugs.

Fiberwyre_P2P 04-24-2014 04:22 PM

You may or may not have overlooked the hotkey upgrade that gives you six hotkeys.

I've accounted for it, I don't have it enabled on my account since I haven't purchased the upgrade for myself.

Can't stand this latest update, got forced to move everything to the first tab just to accommodate for it... then everything sorted default when I logged back in.

I keep trying to remove the stupid thing and it just won't go away, it came back earlier during a large event for a golden egg, and on the cusp of my team winning... I got tagged in and all I get is 'Halloween Trophy isn't a viable Hotkey item!'.

Getting tired of the cheap coding, make a toggle that actually works unlike all your chat command bug-fixes. I've been forced to type '/inventory' as often as I type '/clear'. :\

Tim_Rocks 04-24-2014 11:50 PM

Okay, so here's what happened in case anyone is wondering. I did a little checking around and turns out Rogue had named his first tab the same as another tab which completely reset his entire inventory. Good times.

Shup :c

Tim_Rocks 04-26-2014 03:25 AM

I added a new option (not yet included in the "gear").

http://i62.tinypic.com/2dbjj2u.png

Torankusu 04-26-2014 05:04 AM

nice updates.

perhaps editing the item quantity font color to display in a matter that is not easily blended with the icon colors?

As hard as that seems, and as harsh as that could possibly be on the eyes, try like, orange, cyan, etc ?

The ninja-star-looking item in the bottom left of the inventory obviously has ### worth of an item, but I cannot make out the initial number.

shrimps 04-26-2014 05:20 AM

392.

Fiberwyre_P2P 04-26-2014 01:39 PM

Could just have a black outline or background for the text like this:
https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/s/...THlTn7yJq7mLoA

Also, just a sidenote, I much prefer having more than 4 rows of items visible at a time. It enables you to see more without so much scrolling.
And considering screen resolutions these days as opposed to the late 90s when this game came out, having more screen space taken up by the inventory isn't that big of a deal.
