I pay a visit every few days. Lance came back a little over a year ago and then disappeared. He probably discovered the secret to Graal2001 which is the fact that whatever new version of Graal Script we are using will require every thing to be re-scripted, regardless of the fact that everything on the server still works decent.
If I just had one other person to log on with we could play events! Most still work fine, I know Lance was working on the Kingdoms event to update it nicely.

I took this screenshot just now, anything else you want to see?

Sky 10-12-2012 10:37 PM

I would totally log on and play....if I could... :(

Kamaeru 10-13-2012 05:01 AM

Giggity

Tricxta 10-13-2012 05:21 AM

Why can't you just open it up as it is. We wont judge, we'll just love.

kia345 10-13-2012 05:31 AM

I'll judge it, but when I take the time to ***** about something, that's usually a compliment in its own way.

Ducati_Link 10-13-2012 08:06 AM

I agree - open it up ^^

Graal2001 is amazing as it is, maybe it's a good thing that it lies untouched in all its glory? It seems blatantly obvious that there are typos that need fixed, but man am I glad that they haven't been.

I guess what I mean is that a lot of Graal canon has been soiled, but Graal2001 has dodged that bullet and only lived in its golden age and died when that age did.

Regardless of typos the gameplay and feeling that the messages conveyed was totally sweet, and regardless of the fact that the design of this level might be considered atrocious by many levelers I happen to think this level is super awesome and well made.

Ducati_Link 10-13-2012 09:13 AM

I can honestly say.. that level is one of many on 2k1 that inspired me as a LAT.

maximus_asinus 10-13-2012 11:48 AM

Graal2001 is the only server that could have displaced Classic as my home server.

Open server as is if it isn't incredibly easy to exploit. Maybe then some interested players might be interested in taking the development reins.

What ever happened to the ghetto outside of those levels? Some people have been searching for ages. The dark style + insides were pretty inspiring. :(

scriptless 10-14-2012 07:29 AM

I want to see .. I miss playing this server. It was pretty fun when I last played it.. Ashamed if it never comes back :(

Man I used to love those levels. The first time I stepped into that area I was creeped out. I remember I went through a sewer to get there.

maximus_asinus 10-15-2012 05:13 AM

I remember that area, very Lost Woods feel. Those levels really pushed me towards development.

why do they have to convert everything to gscript2? Don't original gscript scripts still work?

Only clientside.

Original scripts may still work but are likely inefficient and a disaster waiting to happen, because of that a lot of it needs to be converted to GS2.

I thought GS1 serverside scripts spit the dummy due to syntactical errors?

They still work, how well they work is questionable however. If they didn't a ton of NPCs and whatnot probably wouldn't work on UN or Zodiac.

the server ran for years
if the scripts work as they used to i don't get what's the problem, unless the new versions of graal break gs1.

Draenin 10-16-2012 06:33 PM

If stefan and a few others had waited for Lance to convert a lot of GS1 to GS2 instead of making him release G2K1 early, a lot of this content would still be playable.

While there may be a lot of content to go through, it's not impossible to do.

Cow2001 10-16-2012 08:16 PM

i'm sorry but i don't completely understand.
if the gs1 scripts worked before the first shutdown and during the relaunch (before the introduction of gs2 i think), why won't they work now? why do they have to be rescripted?

Laggy/inefficient and potential server security (i.e. item spawning) risks. Changes to the engine may have also changed how they're interpreted which potentially leads to bugs/broken functionality.

They should just re-open it and let curious people mess around.

gravator 10-17-2012 02:54 AM

As people are saying now and have been saying for years, just redo the scripting for now, don't try to be all fancy or gung-ho in remaking the graphics or anything, at least not right away.

Almost every single time someone got the manager spot they wanted to redo absolutely everything and would not accept suggestions to open a small area for the public, I would think having people actually playing on the server and excited for possible progress would be a good way to motivate the staff to bring their ideas to life so others can appreciate them.

Precisely!

I messed up a little.
Some noob logged in and wanted to play so I attempted to assist him.
I was able to summon him to the overworld but he couldn't move around or anything. I reset my account using my limited RC abilities. Then I tried to summon him to the level where you choose if you will be playing as a Human or a Bomy. I don't know why it did not work, but anyway I chose bomy which is pretty interesting but I wasn't able to help the fellow. And now that I reset my account I don't have the Staff tool that lets me clicky-warp and etc. Lame.

scriptless 12-10-2012 03:02 PM

When I logon, all I see is some minigame.. :( I wanna explore.. I used to LOVE this server.. tho when I started it was called Bomy Island.. then dissapeared.. when it came back as Graal2001 I played it.. I remeber a quest called Stefan Quest or something? You had to have a group of friends to complete it.. oh the fun.

Kamaeru 12-13-2012 04:26 AM

I could attempt to get you on, but I have scarce rights. What I do have is the ability to edit my own attributes I.E. give myself weapons. What I don't have is NC where I can see the list of weapon names. I could probably summon you but I can't edit your attibutes to give you proper Human controls..

scriptless 12-13-2012 04:43 AM

Would be cool just to explore the world again.

smokeraider 12-13-2012 08:05 AM

i rather play something new then hoping for a old playerworld to comeback.

Statistics show more servers come back then new ones get created.. True story bro... Classic beast mode it.. now if they added quest's I would start logging on.. Hell if they added some sort of grinding (which they are totally against) like getting money to buy stuff, minning, or any other sort of jobs for that matter.. I would play non-stop and probably quit my job to play.. like I used to play on N-Pulse.. before they went all obsessive over stealing, sorry borrowing, graphics.

at least with servers comming back you know what your getting out of our paid subscription to graal.. a new server that hasnt been tested or ever had success can be rather risking.

Kamaeru 12-13-2012 06:46 PM

Not to mention Graal2001 is a well proven formula.. if I were to make a new server myself it would borrow a lot from Graal2001, just as Graal2001 borrowed from Classic.

Graal2001 did not fail in the same way servers do now. There was still a playercount on Graal then, and Graal2001 in "dead" form still held about 35 players daily. Graal2001 was replaced by Graal2002 (what you now know as "Kingdoms"), and that's what killed it.

If Cyberjoueurs knows of a better explanation then I would like to hear it.

@ scriptless: We could probably play most of the events if there are at least two players.

So get me out of the start level then so I can play =p

FaLLChiLD 12-18-2012 01:28 PM

I say this with no disrespect but let it the **** go, lol. It's not coming back, the glory or the people that made it feel so. No body should quit their IRL job for anything on graal, or even joke about it. Lol, just hold on to your dreams and nostalgia.

Kamaeru 12-18-2012 07:12 PM

I only know for a fact that Graal2001 presented gameplay opportunities that I would be wise to move forward conscious of -- if I am interested in a future in game design.

Out of many games I have examined, this one is deep and rewarding and in some ways does things that Nintendo can't claim to have done with their own intellectual properties.

fowlplay4 12-18-2012 11:45 PM

Skyld just give Kamaeru the keys to the server already.
