I am not sure if it is possible, but I think it's a good idea. You can play iclassic Graal on facebook, and iclassic is also playable on the Graal client. What if we made it so we could play all the servers through the forums. So you can just log on like you do for facebook and play via the forums through an application? It may not be supported by the forums I am guessing, but I think it would be a cool idea. Then I could post on the forums, play Graal, and not have to switch back and forth. Also, you could then have special alerts on the forums for stuff going on in-game which could be beneficial. Just a thought.

its not needed wtf

why cant people understand that theyre either on a computer or on their portable devices. theres only two versions graal needs - the pc one (ya im hating on the flash fb as i think its pointless when we already have a superior normal client) and mobile specific ones (iOS, android, etc. each prob configured slightly differently)

no point in fb flash, forum, etc.

I just thought it would be easier or players, especially on the go. If I go out of town or to a library I don't necessarily want to download Graal, but if I could play it on the forums then I wouldn't have to download anything. Minecraft does the same thing with a website client and a downloadable one as well. Maybe it's not needed, but it certainly would be useful.

Most browser clients have tabs these days. You should be able to switch back and forth without a problem. Unless you have a very outdated browser? There is really no need for a Forum Graal, its pretty pointless.

I play Graal in full screen due to RAM issues. So having to press ctrl - enter every time I want to view the web is time consuming and also pointless. It was just a suggestion, it doesn't even have to be on the forums. It could be on www.graalonline.com for all I care, but I think we should have the option of playing via web browser.

I'm no expert, but how would running Graal in fullscreen eat up less RAM than running it in windowed, especially when windowed is the default?

I am not entirely sure, all I know is I have 1.6 gb of ram. When I am in full screen 800 x 800 resolution I have no lag. However, when I am in the regular screen I can barely move. It might be caused by text I think, because if I set the text to size 1 I can move at a normal pace in the regular mode. It might not be the RAM, but it's definitely something.

Maybe your GFX card isn't kicking in when you're in window mode for whatever reason. Graal's v5 text is incredibly poor when it comes to performance but I played just fine with less RAM and in window mode stretched out to more than that.

Update your drivers etc.

I've been using v6 hoping that would fix the problem, it didn't. All of my graphics cards are updated and things like that I have made sure of it since I got the thing and it's always lagged. When ever I play Graal it turns my cpu usage to 100%, and most of the time my laptop over heats after a while of it being on. It's just a shitty 5 year old laptop though, so once I get a new one it should be fixed.

Laptops are not known for good performance, especially if you combined the word "laptop" with "shitty" and "5 year old". The good laptops costs quite a lot of money.

I know, I think I spent $700 back then for what is probably worth $400 today. Never buying from Radio Shack again lol. Any recommendations for my next laptop?

Yeah but to run Graal? A game that used to run on my old pentium 2 which hasn't significantly changed in appearance? Meh...even in 2006 I was running it on a 2.1ghz Athlon XP w/ 512MB of RAM and a Radeon 7500LE (PCI mind you, really horrid card) just fine.

Indeed—I have a cheap (at the time) eight-year-old laptop which runs Graal fine. The performance problems experienced by lots of players are probably compatibility issues which Stefan really needs to fix.

I think horrible hard drives also play a roll, or oversized Graal folders. I was losing performance on a normal 7200rpm drive because my folder was too big*.

My mom bought a pretty cheap laptop a few years ago (against recommendations) that can barely even run Facebook games. :) The low budget laptops are garbage.

Some android phones are even better than cheap laptops.

Surely it has more power than an iPhone 4, which can run Graal. Isn't the iOS version of Graal basically Graalv6 with a reduced drawing size? Unless it's one of those ultra-thin PUT-ALL-DAT-PRESSURE-ON-CPU type of solutions then I can understand, but he did say he spent $700 on it so who knows.

The OS X version of Graal (which the iPhone runs) runs extremely well compared to the Windows version on the same hardware. I think Stefan has done a lot of optimizing for iPhone—it helps that hardware compatibility is less of an issue, too.

iPhones performing better than Windows players on superior hardware is not unheard of.

Neat. What does the 5.xx represent?

ff7chocoboknight 06-18-2012 03:54 PM

Graal version, I believe.

Thought so too, but I thought Graal forced you to always use the latest version?

Graal version. 5.12 is the current version, anything past that is a v6 beta. The particle engine was improved significantly in the v6 beta, which accounts for some of the FPS difference.

Some? You mean all of the FPS difference. If only v6 was more visually refined. :(...

Hmm well I just don't know why text or being in normal screen would effect my first-person lag. If I am in full screen with or without text i run significantly faster than being in normal mode with or without text. However full screen with no-text runs like my old computer did, so clean and crisp. Other games lag pretty bad too, so it's just not graal... minecraft, combat arms, runescape, and some other multiplayer games lag like crazy.

However when it came to combat arms I ran this program that closed all programs on my computer at the time and that stopped the lag, however it didn't stop it for Graal.
