Lag limit

can we change the lag limit in events like TTS and 16man spar and all the other pk events to like 250-270 cuz its rediculous..either that or can someone PLEASE fix this lag era has acquired over the past 2 weeks. hmm ever since alf left era has be laggin like hell

Supaman771 07-28-2011 07:53 PM

More like.. ever since the servers changed...
Months ago?

WillaWonka 07-28-2011 07:55 PM

Ye I had good lag, 60m/s until whomever moved it now i get 110m/s average with lag spikes range from 300-1500m/s. Terrible.

bloodykiller 07-28-2011 09:07 PM

thats ur problem, lag is EXTREMELY high since server change, i used to go down to 120 now if i go under 180 it's a miracle
for games like call of duty having the equivalent of 10-20ms would be considered an insane amount of lag

Hey its doubled since then thats a lot. I still can't understand how the internet can't handle such little memory usage from graal i mean wtf.

bloodykiller 07-28-2011 09:21 PM

im not sure but i think its about buying "spaces" on the internet which makes ur programmes/webpages load faster

No, we can't.

Conqueror 07-28-2011 09:22 PM

To be 25ms again... :(

80-110ms seems to be my new average on all graal servers...

bloodykiller 07-28-2011 09:47 PM

the funny thing is that when there were no lag detectors on era nobody would complain about latency (only warping would be an issue)

so now instead of complaining about warping we complain about latency, if someone is complaining about warping, they are complaining about high latency.

Yeah, when TK use to play era in like 05 or something, he was never yelled at for lag. EVER. We either never noticed it, or just wanted another reason to complain.

warping and latency r too completely different things..u can have 100ms and still warp a lot: look at 187, he lives in america, his lag isnt too high but he's always been warping
and yeah, since 2005 ive never changed internet in italy (my lag was terrible for some months in england but thats another issue) and on cod i always have 4 bars (which is maximum u can have) and i am elegible to host matches

They're not completely different things. It's just that now everybody can see down to 1ms exactly what value a players latency is currently at. Knowledge is power, but knowing everything plain sucks. It was always easy enough to be like 'OMG, lagger. Whatever noob, not fighting you!' and use judgement in events on if it's a problem. Now there's a benchmark. A solid figure. It doesn't matter if it LOOKS bad or if someone opposing the 'lagger' can handle it or not, it's instantly a matter of "OMG, 101ms! Limit is 100! KICK KICK KICK NOW!!!!". It's completely out of hand.

Astram 07-29-2011 01:24 PM

I randomly shot up from 120 to 250 >_> but, I think you also need to look at your fps

On a default Graal server with a level 3 shield, with a player having 100 MS of lag, a player will appear about 1.2 tiles behind where he actually is when hit detection comes into play. On Era, where your movement speed is well over the level 3 shield speed, with 100 MS of lag, you probably appear to be 2 or more tiles behind where you actually are when hit detection comes into play. The more you know..

fps is related to computer not internet and just slows down the player

"eating bullets" has always happened and always will on era
u should be more concerned about dodging bullets which may hit u rather than looking if ur hitting ur opponent every bullet u shoot
the thing that irritates me is that when an american (typical low latency) has lag spikes he's always complaining about how lag sucks...so y do u say it's an advantage when someone else has it (even an australian/european who cant do anything about it)?

there's a difference between one lag spike of 400 ms and a constant ms of 200-300

Shadow5596321 07-31-2011 08:28 PM

only get 90-110ms

That must be the only explanation! Wouldn't have anything to do with hating on the server locations and the horrible latency that actually causes or anything? Lol. Personally, I think the server in America would be better suited on the west coast somewhere. Provided the servers hosted on that machine can keep their scripts in check, latency should not be so much of a problem as the west coast geographically would be the most central location to connect to, for your typical Era player at least.

Hosting the servers in Russia would probably get the most balanced pings across the world, and some better ones for Russian players :p

i still see 100 or so ms when i know im spiking and i also live in america. so maybe i just have the same problem as 187. usually my ms doesnt change but the spike is clearly noticible so i look like i warped to the other player but on my screen that player eats 20 shots and doesnt get hurt. makes me not even want to play anymore

seems like ever since alf has become manager things gone downhill.

Feel ya, I live in america to, when I'm idling i stay around 120m/s with small spikes, then when i go to pk i start lagging like hell, and anything past 150m/s is unpk-able for me, everything lags, game freezes, players warp, I get mean looks, i then get angry cause this server lags.

thats exactly why i dont pk anymore its the same exact deal for me. by the time the spike recovers a bunch of bullets apear out of nowhere with no place for me to dodge and i have no idea where the person im fighting actually is.

Hezzy002 08-06-2011 12:12 AM

You can entirely fix "eating bullets" and completely synchronize the bullets by adding a time value to the bullet creation packet, and moving the projectile ahead based on what point in time it was created, then from there moving it using delta timing instead of a fixed value per frame.

Or have bullets function on the server side, which is essentially what you're saying but without doing any major scripting changes. But that's been done a couple of times before and the idea seems sound in principle, but the implementation of it has never lasted very long. The problem is the server location geometrically. No amount of scripting genius can account for every single person's lag and smooth it out to make it look seemless to everybody connected.

how so dumb? it's already been explained that it can't be otherwise due to the server
and btw tsa, around like 6months ago server was moved in california and this increased problems for europeans by an average of 50ms but also damaged many americans since the server may not be as efficient

first off, 10k is peanuts.

second, this is something you'd have to script in, you have no access to such things.

You irritate us on the forums, but you still continue to bother us.
