Just my previous V2 base for now but here's what we shaped the base UI into.

Updates/news will be announced when they occur.

I have a suggestion for the spells and such!
Can I pm it to you by forum or by client? (Whichever you prefer)

We are still working this out on our own, we'll open up for public suggestions when we're ready.

I will state two things that are very important to me and this project.

1. PvP
2. Instancing

cyan3 01-04-2011 01:34 AM

Looks great so far :)

Instancing sounds very interesting and I'm looking forward to see how it will turn out. It will be a nice break from pvping to do quests etc in your own little world.

With the amount of players you will be getting, PvP is going to be a big problem.
One idea is making pvp optional, so players who aren't fond of it won't be affected but the higher levels can go ahead and beat the crap out of each other.

Another big problem would be parties and shouts though.
Shouts are a huge part of zodiac, and on iphone....with that many players they may be a problem.

Also with parties, being able to see them and know who is in them as such.

I'm not totally sure how it will work yet but wouldn't instancing solve that problem? It would be impossible to kill somebody in a different instance.

Yes but it would hurt the social aspect of Graal the way I see it. Graal is a very social-based game.

Yes that's one of the many benefits of instancing.

The primary reason is really just to lower the amount of players on screen, less lag, more fun.

I'm also opting towards a Hub-world (with social hubs of course) style rather than an Open-world.

That would be weird...I'm so used to seeing people on the overworld.

DustyPorViva 01-04-2011 02:21 AM

Is that image poorly compressed or did someone get happy with dithering?

I think it's the compression.

Judge it for yourself.

The image is zoomed in as well. I screen-capped it on my touch4g which has a higher res I think.

The 4th generations are capable of higher resolution but I don't think Graal takes advantage of it (it would just make everything look zoomed out in the end). Can always check the GraalControl width and height though

Soala 01-04-2011 03:30 AM

Retina display was kinda made for that.
4 times more pixels on the screen = bigger img = more details = better look.

DustyPorViva 01-04-2011 03:33 AM

It's made for GUI's and a sleek interface, but it doesn't really have the power to render most games at that high of a resolution.

I wish it would - it's not as if screen real estate isn't important.

RegretZ 01-04-2011 04:19 AM

Seeing as he said it was taken from his iPhone 4g I would suspect testing on the iPhone has commenced?

If the server was made from scratch to take advantage of it then it would be awesome. Currently, it would make things look very odd.

MagikMasterMind 01-04-2011 05:09 AM

Can't see how players will deal with over 2 skills including slashing their weapon imo

Could easily fit 5 more buttons in the same shape as the direction buttons with a melee attack in the middle.
But making modifier buttons and 2-3 actual hotkey buttons would allow for way more options.
I play WoW with an Xbox controller and I have 20 spells hotkeyed, as well as shortcuts to target each party member in 25 man raids.

Ya dude.
X, Y, A, B
LB + X, Y, A, B
LT + X, Y, A, B
RB + X, Y, A, B
RT + X, Y, A, B
For spells.

And then the same but with D-pad for targeting, plus left analogue stick in as another modifier.
Back and start are target next and target previous enemies.
Start + left analogue in is to target my target's target, etc. etc.

Would be a lot easier if there were PC drivers for the chatpad, but didn't take me long to get used to my current setup.

Crono 01-04-2011 01:38 PM

crazy.

RegretZ 01-04-2011 04:16 PM

I already contributed my idea ;3

gwFCCtennis 01-06-2011 12:51 AM

Are the spells going to use particle effects? It seems it would lag the client and crash (I crash on iEra just for opening the map half the time.)

fowlplay4 01-06-2011 01:06 AM

Yes, particle effects are the only way we can really do it.

WhiteDragon 01-06-2011 01:10 AM

If you manage to get any info, it'd be interesting to know what sort of modifiers on the particles make stuff lag more than others, other efficiency-related concerns, etc.

Looks good so far, will be interesting how this'll turn out compared to the other iPhone servers.
