Graal PSP/PS3

I am still awaiting the release of the PSP version. Stefan mentioned in other threads that it is possible, that it runs better than the iPhone version, and that it could even connect to current servers. So why hasn't it been released (specifically asked to Stefan)? With the addition of the PlayStation Store to the PSP, I think releasing it via PS Store would be the better way. Many games have been released this way instead of having a disc release. A PS3 release would be phenomenal as well. Many games are being released side by side with PSP and PS3 versions. On the PlayStation Store they're called "PSN Titles" and there are other mini games called "PSP Minis". Though I'd rather see Graal as a "PSN Title" than a mini.

Is it still being worked on? I know that a lot of people will start with comments such as, "PSP version will amuse the 3 PSP users that this community has." Or something along those lines, but just look at Graal iPhone; they have their own community created and founded just by them. If the PSP/PS3 version is released, people will see it in the "New Releases" section and be curious about it and even try it out.

Please give us an update Stefan!

Even though it would be great to have Graal on the PSP/PS3 I don't think it'll happen or at least not soon.

Admins 07-20-2010 09:18 PM

It will be interesting but right now it's not possible.
Graal is working on PSP but we cannot distribute yet (PSP Minis don't allow internet access and updating the binary will be harder). On PS3 it should work fine but we need to get access to the development tools and distribution channels.

But does the regular PSP's have the same (internet) problem? Why would it be harder to update? Just curious. I have a old PSP, one of the first versions and I've been waiting for this to happen. I think Graal would be wonderful on PSP, could probably work very well with the controls that the iPhone community has.

Do you have to go with the PSP Minis direction? Why not make it a PSN exclusive?

Hopefully you guys don't release Graal as an offline only game (like GBC version...). It should be released once Classic comes back on the PlayerWorlds server and we should also be able to interact with PC/Mac/PS3 users on the PSP. Sure, a few things will be hard to do such as chatting, but luckily the PSP now has a mini keyboard and even an updated in-game key entry system. The controls could work by mapping them correctly. I was thinking of how to get it to work and have some ideas for control mapping. I'll post them later if you are interested

And going on off-topic: Does the iPad version of Graal allow you to log on to PC/Mac servers? Or will it ever? I'm getting my iPad soon, and would like to be able to log on to Classic while I'm on break at school :P

DarkHero 07-22-2010 08:12 AM

put it on xbox ;)

Rave_J 07-22-2010 08:25 AM

i though about this wii prob be the best its almost like a computer plus wii stay away with realistic graphics and ps3 doesnt or xbox so graal doesnt fit in plus wii age group it could be big

DarkHero 07-22-2010 08:29 AM

to be honest, your right x.x, but alot of wii people dont play online though.. let alone not a lot of games play online, and when its possible, 90% is laggy cuz of wifi connection=P

It doesn't. But when you think about it, it's good that it doesn't. Take just about any server and think about the functions they offer. With a full QWERTY (or equivalent) keyboard, you can press buttons like 'N' to bring up News, or hotkey a spell/enchantment/prayer, and hold/press Q to bring up the inventory. It would be far too inconvenient for the iPad/iPhone/iAnything versions.

Even Classic had custom stuff like that, so that's why Classic iPhone is only based off of it, and does not identically mimic (or allow direct connection to) the "real" Classic server.

Wasn't Graal3D attempted? It was the biggest fail in Graal history.

People play Graal for a reason. Crappy computers, low requirements. And it still has low amount of players. Who would play the 3D version?

Rave_J 07-22-2010 07:51 PM

ya it fail but remember u have to think 3d was introduce to everybody so graphics cards cost alot and alot of players didnt like the graphics of 3d if we can take time u can make a really good one

I see... well... I wouldn't mind playing iGraal(?) on its own server if it actually had things to do. Right now all people are doing right beside me are planting bombs and getting gralat. I want to do quests, events, etc. on iGraal :\

still looking at a marketing view graal couldnt be successful with ps3 or xbox but with wii it has a chance due to the group age and how it works ect but need inprovements

qw3rt 07-25-2010 08:05 PM

So there will be a specific server for each device ? or the possibility to join already existing server ?

It probably wouldn't be that hard to have all devices (PSP, PS3, iProducts, Wii, etc) connect to the same "iPhone" server since all of the above offer at least 3-button configurations plus directional pads, though Wii has 1, 2 and A which may be inconvenient to those not familiar with most of the Mario games that use them the most. However, there is strain on the server to consider with somewhat 4 times more than the current connection count.

Don't forget the amount of updates there would need to be incase of things such as bugs :(

Crono 07-26-2010 07:13 PM

time better spent making sure the PC version is atleast presentable

You may have been able to play Graal on the Playstation 3 on the older Playstation 3 models before the 3.21 firmware update disabling the other OS option. Before the update it was possible to install Linux on the Playstation 3 System and ran the Linux Graal client. Not sure if it would have worked or not but Sky apparently attempted it found that the Graal client doesn't support the Playstations processor.

It isn't really like it would improve anything in doing it because you could just connect a desktop computer to the same television and do exactly the same thing but with extra processing power and memory because the PS3 limits the processing power and ram when using Linux

TSAdmin 07-29-2010 01:51 PM

As far as PS3/PSP goes, the only recommendation would be a "Minis" version anyway.

So no online support? I know there's an MMORPG for PS3 called Angel Love Online. Why can they do it? (It was released in Japan only though. American users can download it but it would be hard navigating the menus if you do not know Japanese)

Oh yeah, I forgot about the "no online support" problem. Not to mention I had not realised the PSP had received the Playstation Store (Haven't had a PSP in years). I figure my previous point is moot :p

I'm sorry, I don't understand.

So is Graal on the PSP or even PS3 (with online support) a possibility or not? You mentioned that it could happen as a PSP Minis game, so why not as a regular PSN game?

What is preventing you guys from doing so?

It's not like it's free either, and im sure there's plenty of other hoops they'd have to jump through as well.

WOW, That much for a PS3 SDK???

PSP is a lot less expensive. A lot.

Isn't Eurocenter making enough to buy both from Classic iPhone (if it's even called that... Stefan?) micro-transactions?

Not personally, no. Only Unixmad and Stefan are from "The company" really. The rest of us are scattered around the world.

Hopefully they have enough sense not to get on it.
