Hours shouldn't be publicly displayed
I don't have too many hours myself but the amount of harassment I see over hours is sickening.
If someone has a lot of hours on any server, they'll end up getting targetted for their hours or arguments quickly degenerate from: Guy with 3000 + hours: <says something logical> Guy with maybe 500-1000 hours: LOL U HAVE NO LIFE OMG LOOK AT THOSE HOURS Flock of idiots: OMFG 3000 HOURS GET A LIFE BRO GET A LIFE Some people are just randomly targetted for their hours if someone is looking for a fight. This isn't too big of a deal but if hours weren't displayed publicly anymore it'd be one of those things that would make the game nicer overall. Players can be harassed for other things in their profiles like age, favorite quote, etc, but hours are something they can't take out or hide and it's kind of silly tbh. |
There were players on Classic that had close to 20,000 hours. I don't think anybody would insult Pirat or Sting.
Noobs are just jealous. |
It's true that some people tend to make fun of someone who has a lot of hours, but they are probably just jealous. Some people are actually respected for those hours aswell.
But hey, it happens backwards aswell, those with a lot of hours sometimes make fun of someone who is quite new to the server, and I guess you all know what they are often called: noobs. It's not really a big deal to me, as I will just ignore someone who is probably jealous and trying to be smart by telling me what I should do. |
I think it's funny.
A guy with 5000 hours on WoW? Maybe I can understand that; there's hundreds upon thousands of players on at once to interact with, and tons of interesting quests.. But on Graal, there's around 100 players online average. 5000 hours on Graal shows your anti-social in real life and in the game :) |

Yeah bro. People with hours are tons anti-social. How many people are in your family and how many hours do you spend with them? |

I can understand having a lot of hours, considering a lot of people have played for close to 10 years.. |
lol I forgot to mention that having high hours can actually serve as a source of embarrassment for certain players. I know someone that had 6k hours of UN and was so embarrassed because she got harassed a lot that she got a new account off her friend.
It'd just be way better overall if there was a way to hide them or it was taken out. |
These "get a live" phrases are coming mostly from jealous kids. It's a simple calculation example: 20 hours a week results in >5 k hours over 5 years. Some plays this game since 2001 so it's nothing special to have 3 k hours.
|
I wouldn't exactly call them jealous. Whenever I first started playing Graal it was the complete opposite of what it is today. I'd get a lot of comments like "stfu you're a noob with less then 100 hours".
Now the people I see never call people noobs for hours, and people will just insult others for having more hours to them. Just isn't same, really.. I have a friend that actually checks people's hours on a daily basis and is like "Wow ___ was on 12 hours yesterday." and will go harass them >_< |
Well with scripted profiles in V6 this is one of those things that could be added to a toggle, hell the whole thing could be revamped.

A long time ago, I had fun setting my hours on my own server. I think last time I did this, I typed in something like 500k... |
I have nearly 6,000 hours on Classic and I don't mind either way.

If people get upset about onlinetime either way, they have issues. End of story.

"hours are the best, gtfo"
To you, an old player, but to the amount of noobs, no. |

i have 7k on classic and it has given me no problems
its a status symbol really, or used to be. who cares at this point? |
Might as well hide kills and deaths cause I see this used more in arguments. "Wow kid, you don't even have kills above deaths, you really suck!"
|
if you're getting harassed about your hours you should harass them back for being a ***got
|
Definitely should not be implemented.
|
I object to the no life insults. I have a life and have 10650 hours or something on Classic with my main account. People can harass me about it all they want, doesn't affect me in the least.
|
I have 4000 hours on N-pulse and I regret every minute I've spent on that downhill server.
|
If you have 4000 hours on a server you had to have enjoyed it at one time. The community changes, you change, that doesn't mean it was all bad all the time.

If I could add up all of my past and current accounts I'm sure I'd have a heinous amount of time spent on Delteria during the course of over nine years now. I just don't see such things mattering one way or the other. If somebody's that worried about another person's life it's likely because they're unhappy with their own in some fashion -- hence the need to lash out.
|
Most of the times hours do nothing but represent how much time one can spend idling/leaving their computer running.

It's not that I believe hours proof of having no life. Others do.. and I hate seeing the amount of harassment people get if they have a significant amount of hours compared to the other person. I don't even see why removing hours would be such a big deal, tbqh. Best-case scenario is that they're toggle-able in V6 so people can choose to hide them. Whenever I say "publicly" I ultimately mean that staff and the player themselves can see them, not usually other players. |

ITT FuManchu is embarrassed by his hours.

ITT Demisis tries to be intelligent but is only making himself look stupid w/ his assumptions.

While you're right that it wouldn't change the nature of Graal players, it's irrelevant to this because: Quote:
And taking out hours will cut down a significant amount of harassment - enough that I decided to make a post about it. |

I played WoW with my friend for several months and I've only once seen someone make fun of another player for having an item. It was that huge PvP mount that takes ages to get. You can't assume Graalians will do the same (items are easy to get on Graal anyway) because of WoW. "They'll harass people over something else anyway" isn't a valid reason not to do this. "Oversensitivity" isn't a reason to excuse harassment. Quote:

Having people say things you may not necessarily like comes with the territory of human interaction, surprised it has taken as long as starting Graal for you to realize this. |
