Era's Money Problems

For the past few weeks, a small portion of Era's population has been abusing a glitch to spawn upwards of $30 million. Most of this money is now held by Era players, and not the spawners themselves.
  • One month ago, the sum of all of the money in Era's bank accounts was around $10 million. We had one millionaire.
  • One week ago, we had 4 millionaires. The sum of the money in Era's bank accounts was $26 million.
  • Today, there are 8 millionaires on Era. 5 of them have at least $1.5 million. There are 3 people with at least $2 million. There is (and no I am not joking) $45 million in Era's bank accounts.

We are considering several plans to help combat this huge spike of money in the economy.
Plan A: Slow return through the raising of prices and the auctioning dead items (like old guns)
This plan would likely take a long time for effects to be noticeable, even if started right away with an auction a day.

Plan B: Taxation
This plan would tax players on a curve based on the amount of money a player has in the bank. For example, anyone with more than $1 million may lose 40% of their money. Anyone over $700,000 may lose 30%. Anyone over $500,000 may lose 20%. Anyone over $100,000 may lose 10%. Everyone else may lose 5%. These percentages are just examples, and are not important right now.

Plan C: Slash bank accounts
This plan would simply divide every bank account by a factor (such as 1.5) in order to return prices to somewhat the way they were before.

Plan D: Do nothing
Don't do anything to remove money from the economy except the the things that are already being done (such as occasional auctions).

Please feel free to offer suggestions beside what is listed here as well.

I will allow anyone who does not have access to the forums to submit a support ticket to "Contact an Admin > Chris" with their post. I will then post their suggestions (word-for-word) on the forums.

Until a decision is made, bank accounts have been zeroed to prevent the obvious hiding of money that will occur.

Your bank account will be restored on Wednesday, February 3rd, around 8:00 PM EST. By this time we will have made a decision, coupled with the feedback here, on what to do (if anything). Any money you make between now and Wednesday will not be taxed or sliced, and will be added to your old balance. We will resume the MP5 Navy auction then, which will end Thursday at 8 PM.

We cannot fully reset right now as we would just have to do it again once the dev server is complete. It would be best if this thread stays away from issues about the dev server and focuses instead on the problems at hand.

swift 02-02-2010 04:38 AM

make ammo free.

put a block in unstick, you grab and get every item.

Allow people to go on PKing sprees until era fully resets.

WIN ?!?!???

You can't find a Fail solution. Reset or nothing are the only two fair options. People saved up their cash and just because some ****tard messed with it does not mean people who kept cash instead of buying guns should lose money.

Sorry Jenn's reign will never be brought back.

CharlieM 02-02-2010 04:44 AM

A way to help the economy would be to give me 100million and label me the money czar and I pay people as fit.

Not spam.

swift 02-02-2010 04:44 AM

Don't reset era until the dev server is complete!!

Why would you want the satisfaction to go to the kids who did this? So they think they reset era?? NO.

drewprayer 02-02-2010 04:45 AM

i would prefer having 2 resets than having 1 ****ty server for a year then a reset

swift 02-02-2010 04:46 AM

unknown (Mon Feb 01 20:44:15 2010):
Mass message:
I think staff should open a NPC shop for 1 week.

Everyone money will be returned back.

They should have: Bars,Mp5s,Lugers,Drs,Lightsabers, and all those really high guns.

For like 1m+

So people that traded ALL THEIR GUNS**** for cash have a chance to use it all.

After that week they should close down the shop.

I vote this.

We are not considering this option, so on that note I would like to end the discussion of a premature reset. Sorry guys, it just won't work.

xDarkTAx 02-02-2010 04:48 AM

The only fair way you could slash bank accounts would be to slash off guns too, who would buy half a ppsh41?

cbk1994 02-02-2010 04:48 AM

So era is cashless for two days.

Elect an Era Mayor
(S)HE SHALL DECIE THE DESTINY OF ERA!

papajchris 02-02-2010 05:53 AM

It needs to be a progressive tax where the rich get taxed more. The rich won't quit era because lets face it, if you are high up on a game you don't usually quit. New players won't be hit to much so they hopefully won't quit. I don't feel like going back to page 1 but i think this is like option A or something?

How is this in any way fair?

The rich worked for their worth. Why should we take the bigger blow because of some Era catastrophe? If you think that they'd agree to anything along those lines then you're crazy. >_<

The richer players have most of their money invested in items, newbies do not, so they are losing cash but most rich players trade items

The problem is that right now to many players have too much money. If you just decided to cut that in half then they'd all be screwed for some mess up that the staff didn't catch or prevent.

Pretty much everyone will be affected thats the problem. In reality those who spawned the money will get away with their actions because they bought items. So they will get to keep their items, while the innocent seller will lose his cash. But i just feel like if the rich got hurt a bit more than the poorer newbies, less people would leave or get discouraged to play.

How about not do anything at all and lose 0 players? No one seemed to mind the fact the money got a little higher then usual, and no one actually noticed to be honest. If there is an upcoming reset, whats the big deal of just leaving Era with just a small slap on the wrist and taking a few extra dollars into the economy? Most players do not mind this at all.

salesman 02-02-2010 06:17 AM

put all of the money in my bank account problem solved

TSAdmin 02-02-2010 06:27 AM

This almost reminds me of the time we had the "Great Wall of Era", where access to Southridge was completely cut until a benchmark in donations was made... or the time Mange blew up PPA but that was less of a "Disaster relief" situation and more of a "PPA didn't deserve to live at that time" situation.

Nataxo 02-02-2010 07:28 AM

Oh my God.

First I'd like to know how this happened and if the glitch abusers were found?

Tomorrow I'll post a full post about my opinion towards this.

Demisis_P2P 02-02-2010 07:31 AM

I don't see how the money is the issue.

Now people have lots of money and still have nothing to spend it on?
The prices of guns will just rise by roughly the same proportion that money was injected into the economy. It's not going to be unfair to new players because new players never really had a chance at obtaining any of those 500K+ guns anyway.

The only people who might be screwed over by this are the people who had a lot of money saved up to buy something and now suddenly their "lot of money" isn't really all that much. In which case slashing bank accounts by a percentage or a fixed rate would just screw them over even more. People who had almost no cash and had lots of items are the ones that stand to benefit the most from this, because now all their items are worth proportionately more.

So what can you do to reduce the value of items by a percentage?

comet 02-02-2010 07:31 AM

Well, hurry up with the dev server...
I want to see a reset before v6 releases!

Clockwork 02-02-2010 08:11 AM

Taxation, and further reduce it by 10% for being cheating *****s. :o

Andre2006 02-02-2010 08:23 AM

You should go with the auction idea or the "do nothing idea".

Auctions should also be ending earlier... The time they end right now is 2AM my time, I'm never winning any auction...

Duffe 02-02-2010 11:46 AM

A and B!

LordSquirt 02-02-2010 12:14 PM

I say we just keep the money @ 0 and do some good old fashioned flower picking

PS: I like how you never banned the people who abused the glitch!!

xnervNATx 02-02-2010 12:36 PM

i second the idea of making every bank account to 0

its will not be a reset...but at least would clear all the dirty money people got over the years.
