When I read this thread, I must first say that the quality of some of the playerworlds out there really do stink right now. Most of that is the sole reason for the fact that staff on these servers either seem to have a low morale, or once they get their tag they don't give a damn. Well you know what? Wake up people! If you work on a server then you better get your asses going to keep that server up to par. I could really care less if Mr. X is the owner of Playerworldia, or Mr. Y is a badass scripter and works on your new and upcoming server. Graal is a game in which people pay money for, show something for it.
As for you server managers who go straight to Stefan with your servers: I dispise you. Why? You go past the PWA, who take the time to review your grossly designed playerworlds and give you critique on how to make it better. They are here for a damn good reason. When I went to Gaia, I was disapointed as I sat down on the badly mishapen bench, and looked at the horridly shaped fountian. I heard so much hype about this server and how it was going to be good, but it dosen't even keep my attention. But complaining, and *****ing about the servers really isn't the point right now. Some playerworlds really don't deserve to be up there, and some do. If you playerworld managers don't want to take the directive to better what you have, you don't deserve to manage a fraction of this online game. You, as the playerworld managers are responsible for making sure your staff is functional. People like G_Yoshi are trying to get by with little help, but at least he is trying; which is more to show for than a majority of you. And really..bickering mindlessly about why playerworld A should stay up as opposed to playerworld B should just stop. IF the playerworld wants to stay up badly enough, they'll find the way to do it. If not, then good. Servers with inept staff and managers should be snuffed out to make way for servers with better potential. I, for one say down with the SSJ infested slums of Graal, and hoorah for the erection of golden utopias to make this game a grand spectacle for gameplay... |
It's because if you didn't want the server, but you did want a job, then you don't care even half as much as the founder would (hopefully).

graal518 and houd, i agree completely and whatnot. I think that badly managed playerworlds with inept and inactive staff need to be taken down so the already up servers who have staff who care can succeed, and those coming that are more promising can as well. I just believe that this shouldnt be given a limit, whatever are good enough stay, whatever arent, go. Terribly simple.

i gotta agree with toran...that was quite corny, and it was an obvious attempt at a "witty" comment, even though it was a very bad one.

yes, all too often, players only want staff positions on servers because they get power which is why I'm rather picky with whom I hire. I get tired of people who I've hired in the past that whined because they only had the limited powers I gave them which was more than enough to complete the tasks and jobs I hired them for. I'm just looking for players who have great skill in the areas I'm in most need of work (GFX, NPC, SFX/Music). Levels at this point are not my total focus but I will eventually need Level Designers that are good especially with the terrain. |
This is why i think Doomsday is pretty successful, most people like it and rate it as one of their favorite playerworlds, and has one of the higher playercounts (our peak at 7-10 pm eastern american time is about 45 give or take 10)....its all our staff.
Seriously I love the staff who work at DD. Sure we have our problems with staff, but its never serious, and most times we can work it out rather quickly and without anyone quitting or getting fired. Our high staff is amazing. Tifa is a GREAT manager, she works hard, loves the server, is extremely dedicated, and is one of the kindest and gentlest people you'll ever meat. Roscket, our new co-manager, is extremely dedicated and hard working. I'm the admin, sort of the GM (3rd in command type) and I like to think im very dedicated. Our department admins are great at their skill, and also very dedicated to keeping their staff in line and active, and our low level staff guys are just stupendous and very talented. I think the key to having a great PW is having great staff. If you can find a good staff, you can succeed in the PW world. I'm just using DD as an example, but I know of other servers with good staff systems, and those are almost always the successful ones. Having too many PW's can cause this to degrade, causing the good staff to spread out and disallowing servers to succeed. |

what confuses me is why whenever some servers decide to have big changes they need to go private for months until everything is done. I mean, DD recently redid half their overworld, doubled its size, had a reset, and we are currently redoing or remaking every quest and every single idea and npc that has happened to cross DD's path, and we've done it all without going private. Our playercount never dropped, and our players understood completely and they seem to be enjoying it all very much. It's possible if ya just get everything done in a reasonably short amount of time. It doesn't take 2 years to make 100 levels.
