Take into consideration games and try studying a bit of American history and what made the times in which the Mafia reigned so unique. For example, instead of simply making the game a "gun/building-capturing server," why don't you attempt to use that RP element you have to your advantage? Take the ability to customize your characters and make it so that people as they join are able to join one of x amounts of "main" families. The benefit in joining a family in the beginning could be a bonus in say: using the places taken over by that specific family to gain discounts in weapon shops, food shops, etc. Make it so that the more territory a family has taken over, the more money they make and the more of specific (not just filler territory - crackhouses, bars, etc) territory taken over makes it so that the members of that family can gain benefits in those territories. Doing something as simple as this would make it so that the need to be in a family is required and each player WILL strive to keep that family actively on top of the most important (or strategically diverse) territory so that they could plan attacks on other families. On top of that, you could offer making things much more unique by allowing players to form their own families and allowing the buildings they take up to be customizable as well, allowing them to gradually form a family that could compete with the main families. =========================== Just a few ideas, but I think that'd make the server a little more unique in terms of being just a plain gun server. It'd offer purpose to the players and it'd be unique in the theme. Given the theme and the time of the game, you could also give specific effects that character can experience while drunk and can be a huge selling market for the families that can take over specific territories and set up their own underground bars (given the whole Prohibition Act where alcohol was made illegal around this time). |

Roleplay isn't necessarily a bad thing. Val, I remember was a fun server when the weapons were still usable and players were able to go out of character and back into character when needed. You just need to find a right balance between the two, with a theme so delicate as the mafia, the limitations prove to be infinitely useful. Truth is a server that has some obvious limits and forces players to follow some sort of goal - other than the widely popular kill player - makes it so that the server gives all players a purpose other than killing a player for stats. |

now, let me critique why your ideas are stupid. by your solution, we would solve the problem of family monopoly by adding in monopolies to predetermined families that already exist before the server comes out: sort of like era's gangs. except that this would make player-made families become futile unless they started out right in the beginning, thus being one of those predetermined families in the first place. allow families to have more customization is an obvious prize-system that is quite far from being original. how you ever came up with that one, we'll never know - perhaps during one of those long nights waiting for sleep, you thought up this brilliant and unoriginal suggestion. whatever the case, if ML staff hadn't already thought of this before you suggested it, i would be shocked (and appalled) now i'll give ML a different suggestion since you seem to want to have some worthless RP elements on a game where people love to be as unique as possible and don't want to be limited to "fitting in" with the atmosphere: you are going to need some form of law enforcement that combats the various family mafia. if my memory serves me correctly, what gave the mafia leverage over the police force was the fact that they could use machine guns, while the police force was limited to pistols. this should be hard for a family to get (you don't want to have everyone with machine guns going everywhere) but it should give them a significant advantage over the neutral police force who want to get rid of the various mafia-groups for example, you shouldn't be able to run about with guns blazing in a public area, or just go about PKing anyone you please. these acts are illegal, and you should be pursued and stopped if you try to do so. a good way to enforce this would to have several NPC-police guards who protect the inner cities and patrol about, either capturing or killing any mafia-type members should they attempt to break the law. hell, if a player gets a big enough reputation in any given city, you could have police chase that player on sight another good opportunity presented by the idea of law enforcement would be to have local banks which could be robbed by players - a good neutral way to obtain money aside from carpal tunnel syndrome "press the s button to break the rock/ore/tree/etc." type systems. the bigger the bank, the larger amount of police force within, the greater amount of money to be stolen (not to mention having families break in, fill up the bags with cash, get to the getaway car, only to be thwarted by a enemy family who steals their spoils) a last suggestion on police forces: allow police to randomly raid a mafia-controlled building at some given time, given the reputation of that family. unless you were planning on having giant flags atop the buildings to indicate which family owned which building, the hideouts of each family should be secretive (how are you supposed to get away from breaking the law if everyone knows where your hideout is?) and so, if a family member breaks the law and the police see them walk into (one of) their main-hideout(s), then the setup for a raid would be warranted in before "all things hiro posts are tl;dr durp de hurp" |

We have many ideas that have not been posted. One of these, is how to make money. Aside from the boring spamming of S, on a mine, fishing, tree ect, like Hiro mentioned. We have a new way to do so. We will have a random spawn of NPC's all different kinds. Examples of these random spawns are John Write >Wealthy Man< - You can mug/Murder this man, in hopes of some good cash. NPC Truck - Bring it to the chop shop, for money. A Rare spawn of Famous Mafia names, which may drop tons of cash, ect. Please note there will be many many more ways on making money. Little crimes like this. All of these DO infact have your "Enforcement" detail you stated. You do have a chance of going to Jail. In jail you serve Minutes for the crimes you have committed. Now, you CAN escape from jail, or try. You CAN get bailed out. You CAN even get busted out, but if your friend who is busting you out fails, he too will be in jail. Now, aside from Jail, we do have a real punishment level, known as Prison. Prison is where harassers, and racism go. I would like to touch up on your "Bank Robbery" statement. We will in fact have a bank robbery system. In this a "Don" or "Higher up" in the family, can place a beacon on the Bank. It will then countdown for all family members in area, to get within the area. When timer finishes, all members will begin the robbery. If you succeed in this almost impossible activity, you will gain mad profits. Now, say Family A Enters the bank, and is successful. Then Family B tries to do it, RIGHT after them. They will only receive as much money that the bank has regenerated over the time between the two heists. Now please note, anyone who "dies" in the bank robbery, will be put in jail, for Attempted Robbery. If the party itself fails, you are all sent to jail. We have a ton of content that we wish to share with people, when the time is right. So if you DO have any ideas, you would like to share with us, please contact me for a 1 on 1 meeting in game. Sounds like there are plenty of ways to earn money. How are you going to destroy that money, so that the economy doesn't face hyperinflation?
