I dont agree with you there....for some of the PW's, that may be true, but not being able to get talented people to help is a big issue, and is hurting the PW's who are really busting butt.

Yeah but the fact of the matter is, it doesn't matter how much dedication the staff have towards their server, if they don't have talented people, the server is of no use.

It's a player made server, get it in your head. Its not going to be perfect.

Which is why we're having the majority of the horribly imperfect ones removed.

It's not expected to be perfect.
It's just expected to be a reasonable standard and sadly most player worlds that are on the server list now arn't up to that standard.

I know, and that is why I said I agree with taking them down...its just that it is sad...

Exactly... And it is getting harder and harder to find good talent these days, with the standards rising quickly, some people can't keep up, 2-3 people make super awsome levels, and all of a sudden all the people who were good a week ago are now a 2/10!

Warcaptain 10-13-2002 05:40 AM

well

i will be the first to admit that what is up on my server, isnt the best quality, or even near.

its just up there to have something up, make inspectors happy I guess, better than a black screen that transfers you somewhere else *cough*

but as for it being "uc"
no one should complain.

we've been "uc" for the summer, and september

and our planned release date is christmas.
unliek fah which is been in the making, had several diff managers, and 2 years later still isnt doen.

_0AfTeRsHoCk0_ 10-13-2002 08:33 AM

But the problem is no server online should be "UC"

They are simply abusing their presence as classic servers, there needs to be a crackdown, or it needs to go private

Milkdude99 10-13-2002 08:49 AM

I will really reserve comment till I see what these "requirements are" ; till we do anything we say now is pure speculation on what we "think " is meant by these unseen new rules.

What is online now , some of them anyway is the fault of who passed them OR just put them up and they hold the brunt of the blame for that. I have not nor will I point fingers on who needs to come down , first off it is not my place to say regardless of what condition they are in.

We need people to make tutorials etc etc... Scripting tutorials, explaining things fully and in plain ENGLISH! and other languages of course... Getting more talented people means getting more good playerworlds...

Maybe advertising more would bring more people to graal, there would probably be a percentage of people would would be very good level makers/GFX people etc 0.o; What it all boils down to is talent!

Heh. That would be nice. I think what needs to happen is to make the game appeal more to an older audience that might have those kinds of talents.

The current scripting tutorials are good enough. If anybody can't understand them then they should maybe rethink their decision to be a scripter.

So basicly what you're saying is that if you walk into a 4th grade (3-4th year) class room for the first time, and you dont understand all these numbers with an X and a = thrown in there in places, you should reconsider your decision to get an education? No. When you learn to multiply for the first time, the teacher doesn't say "Ok, so you do this and this then you get the product"... What the hell does he mean by product, we never learned that last year!

Just because someone isn't as good at math at your, or has some trouble understanding something doesn't mean they should be denied the right to know how to script... That's like not having special aid classes in schools!

(And Im not sure on the grade you start mulitplication in @_@ 3-4 was only an example...)

Fair point, I suppose. But the fact is this: If people can't understand scripting tutorials without help then they are never likely to be good scripters.
