I've been updating the tripod site as well. I could really use some screen shots too :D (.gif format plz, tripod doesn't like .png :rolleyes:)

The old OW will soon be larger, and have a gmap. Look foward to it some time this week...I hope. It will have an ocean around the main island, which we will expand into before the newest overworld is completed this summer. DR has a lot of room for creativity and developement. We're actually making an overworld.

Okay, what I did was make a gmap with the level editor that was large enough to fit the old OW. Then I replaced the levels in the gmap file with the ones from the old gmap. I press M in editor, and it goes through it fine, however, the map image it generates is messed up, it cannot be opened, and it showes no image. I don't think I did anything wrong. The map is 25x37 levels, could it's size be a problem?
Also, the gmap will not function online

Gmap still doesn't work, and I STILL havn't gotten a reply to my support ticket!
Anyway, DR recently introduced an in game Computer for staff to test. Basically, i allows the players to send e-mails to each other, chat off the IRC, in game, go on the internet, and soon, play games. After a few days testing we will release it to the public (it will be released without games, however, you will receive a freebie or two automatically, and most you will have to buy).
Also, I'm allowing peolpe to submit games, see details, guidlines, and payment(in game rewards) here:

I made the first game, which is free with the computer, a simple guessing game. Keeps score, etc. We want this to have a lot of games, and I can't make them all, so if you can script, please feel free to create and submit a game. Testing seems to be going well, the computer should be released soon. :D

Okay, if you havn't realized, DR has been closed down, staff only. We're redoing the classes, movement system, weapons, jobs, overworld, warps, and pretty much anything you can think of. Class will play a larger role, you will be able to get materials, and make your own swords and weapons, as well as use the ones we've made. I plan to make many different weapons with different abilities, spells, speed, damage, etc. Also, the more you use a weapon, the better you will get at using it. A sword might start out with a damage amount of 1-3, but after a few days of using it, that might be up to 2-5, etc. Also there will be chances for critical hits, misses, etc. Also there will be a hand to hand combat system added, better fighting skills, like blocking and different types of attacks, and more. Be prepared to see a much better DR. It should be done by DR's first birthday, this July 27th. I hope XD ANY help would be appreciated, we'll need scripters, levels, gfx, ganis, sxf, music. Basically any developement possition you can think of. It's going to be really awsome. Also, look for more weapons, more varied abilities, vehicles, like row boats, sailboats, running shoes, buyable horses, buggys, wagons, etc. DR's getting a huge makeover, and I'm gonna be really busy. 1.Watch how your placing Tables
2.Your tiles are just lol horrible
3.Dont use carpets as paths
3.Use corner tiles for the insides of the roof tiles and outsides on the inside levels
4.Your tiles have decreased the quality of the classic tileset, instead of increaseing IMO.

o and wtf is with that gui of yours, that has to be one of the worse replacements for graal hearts Ive ever seen. Make a new one, and since your all obviously not so skilled with graphics. Dont make it to complex.

Hmm, I thought (except for the grassy inside corners) the levels looked pretty nice. And I thought the tiles give it a more realistic look into the past (especially with the music we have).
As for the gui, we do have a new one, I just havn't scripted it yet (hey, I'm busy!)

The levels aren't horrible but they are a shift away from the classic look if that's what your aim is. I haven't read the entire thread but those levels look a lot better than the ones at the start of the thread. In my opinion going with a classic style usually means we don't have any level makers that can do better.
The levels are decent over all but nothing that is going to rock peoples worlds. I agree the carpet tiling is a bit odd as the color is so similar to the sand tiles around it.
Also make sure you go ahead with that GUI as the current one is not so nice.

I like your current GUI just kill it's background and it looks basic, but effective. You're a crossdresser? *jails* j/k

Some of the level main layout seems familiar to me, but that's probally just me, but defintially a step up from your old levels. Good job.

I see cliff errors, the dirt road tile graphic itself is like ugly. Apart from that keep it up, I wanna own you on your own server one day.

In the hopes of stirring up intrest (and staff?) here's an update:
I've disabled the old swords, now you will collect different swords, each with different abilities. Some will be based on class, some everybody can use, and some everybody can use, BUT, they have different abilities for each class. You start out, before eving picking your class, with the ability to punch, block, and super punch. Then you choose your first hand held weapon: a broad sword, which is heavier, more powerfull, and it's special attack is a ground breaker. A Tachi, which is fast, lighter, and it's special attack puts the sword back in the saya (sheath) then quickly draws it out. And the final weapon is a long Bo staff. It's very quick, light, and it's special is a spinning attack. I may also add quick attacks for each weapon, jabs, etc. All weapons can block attacks. :D I plan to add more features, and maybe more hand to hand moves.

Actually, I think we have one somewhere, I need to change it a bit too.
It should look noce with the new events system too, and the gui and other player systems will cause less lag now, are more efficient, and most of the scripts on the server are now in gs2. Yay!
Still making swords, katars, etc. I think we have 14 working swords now. I'm also redesigning all the quests and weapons, so that they work with a more combat oriented style of gameplay.

It's a nice level.

For the GUI, take it one step at a time. First, I would recommend another graphic, something that would be nice when viewed at, which can blend in with the world, in addition to spacing it out. It seems a bit bunched together, though, that's me. Then after this, add other transparent effects if wished, but do it one at a time.

I, for one, would be happy to script your new GUI, since it is a major letdown for the appearance of the server.

Updates:
Dark Rival was reopened, however I made it staff only again to create an exp system. Players will be abe to gain levels, etc, and train with specific weapons, to get better with that weapon. I will also be introducing at least one more class, new weapons, and custom baddies, with better movement, attacks, and AI. I have always wanted the classic feel with an rpg server, which is why this server will still have quests to help the player grow stronger.
Players will get exp from killing baddies, or other players, and they will gain exp for a certain weapon from using it.
As the player gets better with a certain weapon, they will gain additional moves, and it will become faster and more powerfull. This will even be incorporated into tools, and skills. Just trying to make DR unique, and I think this will make DR more fun. :)

Okay, now working on custom baddies, also a lockpick, which will work with a lockpicking system. Thieves will have an advantage, as it will be slightly easier for them. Basically, you get a side view of the lock, and you control the pins. Once you line all the pins up right, the door can be unlocked...or locked.
Also, here's a pic of the new gui, you can roll the mouse over things to get the text for it, like your exact hp, mp, ap, exp, or even the name of your weapon.

Yeah Zodiac turned out to have a lot of that.
So, I've decided to go back a bit.
Going with the old story line, except it's all one, epic, story now.
Also, going purely with a classic feel.
I am also providing the DR computer free to players.
*Mac users only, there are also price discounts, and additional quests for Mac users
I am not looking for developers, since I can't hire anyone without an rc!
I am however using the in game level editor (next to useless) for making levels, and Joey's NC and text level editor to edit levels and weapons.

Wow... good luck ... The NC and text editors aren't so bad, but it's going to be a pain making a lot of levels with the online editor :(.

And it's hard to make the levels look good.
NOT THAT ANYONE CARES.
I had hoped someone would notice my white text too :p
Sometimes, I'm not sure if it's even worth it, since there's no way for me to really edit levels or NPCs with ease offline, OR online.
GO may be out ~$160 a year if something doesn't change here.
