Nothing can match the fun of axes :D.

Wow, the people on this message board have such high and diverse taste that every option got a vote! that's great! I'd like you all to explain what's so good about your favorites, though, because that's where the beauty of it all is!

A kusarigama is the perfect parrying weapon, I think. Its swing is greatly efficient against an opponent in chain mail, its chain is ideal for catching an opponent's sword, and its weight is usable for crushing plate mail!

Throwing knives are cool too :D
hey, dante posted. :)!

FatherDante 04-12-2001 01:18 PM

What, I go for a couple hours to see the pokémon movie and suddenly me posting is a big deal?

I'm with Reb on quarterstaffs. I got 2 of 'em...still not entirely sure what to call them, I've both heard Quarterstaffs are 1/4 the length of a standard staff, thus Cudgels/clubs, but also that it's 1/4 the width, or the diameter of a quarter...the ones I got were standard bamboo poles from the OSH Gardening section (15 cents each!), wrapped with leather...tried unsuccessfully to put a footpad and mount a gem on one, the other I just keep raw for sparring. It's sweet, I can disarm just about anyone faster than they can draw, and there's always the added bonus of attacking with either end...it's really a beautiful weapon when it's done right.

Well, how was the movie? :P

The best I've come to using a weapon for sparring is fake swordfighting with my little brother :(

FatherDante 04-12-2001 01:26 PM

Tyhm, I used to have the same confusion, because I heard the same thing! Now I've verified that a quarterstaff is actually the term coined by europeans for a long staff used for fenving. Startling, ey? I think a weapon less than the length of a person is a striking staff until it is short enough to be wielded in one hand, in which case it is a cudgel, "simple" mace, or shillelagh, if it has a large knob for a head.

Oh, come on, buddies, as great as it is to know what you like, I also like to know why you like them! I love weapons and I wanna talk more about them! :D

My love for the Katana dates back to the later 1980s when I was worshiping the Teenage Mutant Nina Turtles (I can hear you all laughing, LOL). I liked Raphael the best but I loved Leonardo's Katana more than the Sai. The elegance of the combat methods surrounding the Katana are brilliant and lovely to behold. I love all swords, but the Katana is a swift, ingeniously crafted blade.

When sparring with friends I find myself taking up arms with a bo however, since I don't own a Katana nor would it be a very safe thing to fool around with near the relatively untrained

hmm.......im not sure what i would like more......they all can be fun and dangerous.....whats more to like than that? I personally like blended weapons.....as far as taking a sword and giving it a futuristic edge to it.......such as a lightsaber........btw....i have a mutator for Unreal Tournament that lets the player use a light saber....its sweet....especially going up to bots and cutting off their head........I also saw somewhere that there was a mutator that changed all the weapons in UT to medival weapons like broadswords and stuff.....i really want to see that

FatherDante 04-12-2001 02:03 PM

I don't know how to fight with any weapon, I'm just an admirer of all of them.

Well, I guess I'm a little self-trained in foil and saber fencing. :)

Ahh, TRUE! So true :D

I like katanas but I find them a little overappreciated. Lots of people like them, but, after all, there are so many great weapons out there, I like them all!

And I like other japanese swords better anyway. A nice tachi and miniature tantos are nifty, but my favorite is the no-dachi, or "Man's sword." :) Actually, it was designed both to fight and to be used to cut down thick brush when travelling through forests! :D

Well, all the "old fashioned" weapons. I'm not to keen on heavy arms, wide area bombs, and biological weapons. They just take the grace out of it, I think.

Axe! Hehe
