Awesome shape, but the eyes and mouth are a bit odd. Perhaps use a lighter color for the lower pixel are of the lips, and for the eyes use darker colors.

Zero Hour 06-03-2004 01:42 AM

Also; the thumb is far too bug, fix it, please.

As always, awesome shading. <3

The only thing I personally would add is a darker outline, but that's just me, I have some sort of outline-fetish. x_x

It counts as part of his style...

Hands can be a very expressional part of the body along with the eyes and the face. For example, one of my (middle) fingers is expressing something at you (and scott) right now...

LordZen 06-03-2004 04:24 AM

Ah I like alot of what I have seen so far. :)

Scott, could you clarify something for me? What um did I say to cause you to question whether it was 15 or 16 colors? I'm confused x_x

It was about the 11 color thing, I misread thinking you might of said "The limit is now 11 colors" or something along those lines.

Goboom, I like the big thumb part. It adds a goofy/surreal feel like the rest of your monkey does. I would suggest adding a circle-esque shape to the end of the thumb to add some nice eye candy. Eyes are still too dark for my liking though.

Donald, it's amazing how much offense you can take over an internet forum. You need to keep your cool (lol?), and learn not to take people so seriously over forums. Especially these.
^^

You guys are wasting your time with these leet drawings. We all know my two entries are the real winners. Give it up you can never be as good as me.

On the real note, that looks great goboom.

LordZen 06-03-2004 10:10 PM

About txt, I guess that depends on how you use it. Butz used some and the way that was used was perfectly fine.

Txt descriptions doesnt really add to the artwork's value in my opinion, though. We are judging a peice of art, remember..

alarid0 06-03-2004 11:27 PM

Looks good goboom but theres one thing thats annoying me....

Lets not argue so friggin much in this thread please.

Donald..dont get so worked up.

Goboom 06-04-2004 07:15 AM

Thank you Zen! I was getting annoyed with it.

TonyRivers 06-04-2004 08:53 AM

Hmm thats odd scott please direct me to where I said I needed "657659043 colors". Nope didn't think so. Well if you think that an 8 bit color is better than a 256 one or 16 million one than I should say you need to have your head checked.

Yeah yeah sure I bet your gonna try to give us all a sermon on how you slave and labor to make your "pixel art" look good with using as few colors as you can well there is ovbiously something wrong with this picture.

I can make a better piece of art twice as fast as you can yet you think you are more skill-full because you do it the old fashion way. This is like an Amish farmer ragging on the big corprate farming company because they use tractors.... I will fill you in there is no right way to make gfx it all how you look at it.

Pixels are pixels no matter how many you use and it is sad with the tools we have avalibale there are still people trying to opress technology by pleading the old and tired "well we do it the right way" defense...

Having a good knowlage of pixel art can be helpfull becasue you know better what looks good and what looks bad and more importantly why it looks good or why it looks bad. There it nothing wrong with using the new sorts of tools to make art but what pisses me off is when people say that their way is the right way and is better.

Art is a very subjective thing so by having contests and saying who and who is better really proves nothing. To be a good artist you should get to the point where you want to make something and you can make it how YOU wanted it to be made. Sure there are some basics to all "good" art or "popularly praised" art like the monolisa but Ill explain that later.

But only if you are the only one who will be looking at that piece of art.

*goes back on topic*

Goboom 06-05-2004 03:45 PM

Can we please get this thread back on topic? This is a graphics challenge!
Zen maybe the challenge could be split into two threads, one for just the graphics and another for commenting.

Scott 06-05-2004 09:14 PM

There's style types in art. Surreal, abstract, digital abstract, pop culture, propaganda, and of course many others. Pixel art refers to classical "Pixelation" methods.(Or atleast that's what I've seen and read from all the pixel art communities.:\ ) As seen in games like Street Fighter, SNK, or many fighting games. Sure, everyone can do what they want when it comes to art. However, if you're going to join a style and practice it, make sure you're following tradition. That's how I look at it. As said before, you're taking me too seriously. You get worked up over trivial things, you don't know me and I don't know you. ^____^

On a side note: Too bad I missed the forge thread.

That would be too confusing at this point. But that will be an important change in the 2nd edition of this contest. As I said, I would try to work off this test run to see how to best conduct future contests. So thanks for that suggestion.

And, once again. STOP ARGUING? :whatever:
