Mess around with alpha...higher makes the transparency become solid-like, lower makes it become almost non-visible.

That doesnt work. It makes the .gif brighter than the rest of the tiles not darker........

could it be just an edited backpal?

nah, its acually an illusion. It makes you think you have shadows, but its just putting light through the trees. If you get it right, you can almost convince someone it is a shadoweffect, rather than a light effect. Thus I say it is a very clever tactic ;)

I figured it out.

In that level is a backpal.
The .gif he put over it makes the tiles lighter than the rst of the levbel making it an illusion that its darker

like this I set the backpal than made the graphic into the light. I know its not the EXACT thing but heres an example

No its just the opposite. You have to reverse the immage thats like the negative.

Falcor 07-09-2002 12:20 AM

seteffect works. You don't NEED a backpal (I used seteffect)

this is what you need

But listen look in the picture. The Shadow is darker than the tiles and the tiles are normal color.

It works either way, just have to play with it.

konidias 07-09-2002 12:51 AM

You would never be able to get the non-shadowed areas to match the normal tilest colors. It will always look faded. He did not use seteffect, he used transparency in a paint program. :o

No, you're wrong I think, I get what he did now, the shadow isn't the image, the light that shines though is... Smart guy...

mmmmkay: Duh...we realized that long ago. In his image, the normal grass tiles are the exact same as without any effects. The way you are thinking the normal light would be blurred a bit or something, because of the alpha-blending.

wow that is awful smart though...and it really is a cool ass effect...anyone figure out if he did it real or if its in pain yet? im very curious...

Waltz5 07-09-2002 08:25 AM

I figured it was fake the moment I saw it. You can't use seteffect to darken a level and have something cut out over it. You can't use changeimgcolors to set the alphablending on the overlay image to be dark, only light, so this rules out his use of alphablending or seteffect. There is no other way to achieve that effect, so it was not made in Graal.

I dont like how there are random tree toips coming out of the roof of the house....

royce 07-11-2002 08:36 AM

Couldnt it be a filter from a graphics engine?

Waltz5 07-11-2002 09:28 AM

Royce your level burns my eyes:p... so bright .

Otherwise, it's great.

Cid_Night 07-12-2002 12:14 AM

wow i like royce's level alot, thats pretty kickass! good job lol

royce 07-12-2002 03:04 AM

Thanks. I swear I have not made a level since Febuary and I just found out about this contest yesterday. I could care less about the prizes really. Maybe get a bomy or something. I dont play 2001 that much anymore. Thanks for the comments.

EDIT: To take a picture of the WHOLE level with screen shots, you have to do the player screen ones but to hide the stats and player you simply put this script in
NPC Code:
if (created) {
showstats bitflag;
}

Take pictures from every corner. In a GFX Editing Program, Open the 4-6 screens you took, make a image 1200 pixels * 1200 then start by adding the upper left corner first from the small screen shots. If you zoom in a little, you can piece them together by the light effects. Once that is all done, modify the image so you dont have any extra space outside the whole shot. Save your level then walla!

magicbud3344 07-12-2002 01:39 PM

Spanky why the hell were you fired your level kicks ass! :O

royce 07-12-2002 02:14 PM

Spanky, I still think your the coolest guy who ever came on graal but your level... looked AWSOME at first, but after stareing at it for a few minutes (6 mins), it didn't look that good. Sry, but this is what it came to me.

Not Konidias:
Agreed. =\ I don't like it and I spotted some tile errors.. I guess I rushed it.

Cid_Night 07-13-2002 02:51 AM

Why do you have to make fun of other people? He came out and said he made a mistake, now you just have to instigate...

no im talking about the one with the mini people, the one that was certainly a joke. im not making fun of neone, the level i put in was terrible, i cant be talkin..

Waltz5 07-13-2002 05:28 AM

Well it ends today... I say mmmkay and Haunter win hands down... as for the last spot, it's a toss up.

Cid_Night 07-13-2002 05:48 AM

tell ya the truth...no idea who wins here, nothin at all...there all really good, could be anyones.

royce 07-13-2002 07:57 AM

mmmkay's level is nice but i dont like the way he put the castle type thing RIGHT in the middle, if he a stairway going down it would have been nicer, then have opening in the top where you could go out etc.
What I dont like about Haunter's level is the castle. Look at it for a bit, looks awkward.

It should go to frosty.

Kuza 07-13-2002 09:18 AM

Those are all good submissions. I like Zolrieg's the most though. It's the most original and I couldn't find ANY tile errors at all. Most levels with outside objects are fairly ugly, but his level seems to clash rather well with them.

Grim Squeaker:

You're completely correct about the fact that my submission is not serious. I'm not normally a level designer anyway, but I just decided to add at least something. :P

SavantMiles 07-13-2002 09:02 PM

on a seroius note, if froster is only 9, id say that a pretty good level for a 9 year old.

Cid_Night 07-14-2002 01:51 AM

wow hes 9, i didnt even read the stuff just looked at the level..wow i dont even know any nine year olds that play graal, no matter ones that experiment with development and forums...haha

Grim Squeaker:

Actually I know 9 year olds who can do better, but then again I live outside of the US, and thus in a country where intelligence is normal ;P

(That was joking, so don't be offended)
