i was reffering to OASIS.
and for that screenshot, here's my comment: OH MY GOD! that's a huge piece of hulkacrap. (seriously, that looks really bad. i cant see why is shadrock so proud of faheria's tileset)

Ah! My apologies. I thought you were refering to Faheria... never mind.

If you're referring to the level quality.. well gee that's really funny, since I just laid down tiles to test them.. it isn't an actual level in Oasis. Go work on Faheria for crying out loud.

Compared to what we have seen of Faheria, Oasis looks like... uh, a very good server...

The new Faheria tileset actually looks very promising, I wish Shadrock or someone would show more things from it. :(

No that's what this is for. That tileset is as old as time and not being used, end of story. Here's a small preview of the new one we are working on.

[EDIT] Note: The grass in this screenshot is NOT the real grass, I had put this together as a test screen. The main screen will have grass with more movement, like the grass in Chrono Trigger or Seiken Densetsu 3.

I hope you plan on adding shading to the cliff bottoms.. at the moment they have like 0 depth. Just looks like brown squiggles drawn on grass.

Actually it's already done, I had to remove it because of the grass under it.

Bird2prey 03-17-2002 10:02 PM

I still like Koni's more.

Everything you guys have seen for Oasis isn't the final version. I'm most definitely going to clean up all the graphics I make, and improve them as much as I can. Right now I'm just getting basics.. the basic stuff, basic design, basic detail, etc.

What I have seen so far is gold.

ArchOwl 03-18-2002 12:22 AM

Kadar 03-18-2002 01:43 AM

I'm glad you said that, because that's what we intended. Faheria will not be like Graal.

mmmmkay: Don't jump to conclusions so fast, I meant your village on 2001, which has incredibly plain tiling. And thanks LH, hearing that makes me very happy.

I intended on it being "incredibly plain tiling" because Placing tons of random rocks, bushes, and messy tiles does not make good levels, but I guess to you it does. That is not detail, that is trying to cram tons of different tiles into a small area. It makes it look like a jungle and that isn't what I was going for.

Frolic_RC2 03-18-2002 10:28 AM

VERY, very nice Shadrock. Haven't been on the forums for a month or so now, so this is my first post in a while. That screen you showed got me to post, and it no doubt deserves it. Your image quality has improved greatly.

I especially love the mountains, and everything else is very good. Excellent work.

As for knodias' stuff, looks the same as usual, and not really much new. Not bad though.

Bird2prey 03-18-2002 02:41 PM

Whatever. I still like Konidias' tileset much more than anything floating around at the moment, including Faheria's.

That's a pretty good graphic for being colorblind, but nonetheless you can still make a great outline.

Kaimetsu 03-18-2002 03:58 PM

I think Shadrock's tileset is possibly technically superior, but I'd say Konidias' looks more fun to play in. It's bouncier, more colourful, less pretentious in a way. But hey, I'm just a scripter. I'd probably have to pay you 2 cents to listen to my opinion.

mmmmkay: If you knew anything about making a level look nice, you'd know how to pattern it and use more than 5 tiles to make an overall nice looking level. Your levels are so straight...it looks like the effort is so minor.

The "jungle" style make the level look more alive. like when it's not just grass.

Lao_Su2 03-20-2002 02:44 AM

I think that both tilesets (Fahria's(sp?) and Oasis's)
Look great i cant wait to play with either of them so :)

I didn't want to word it so harshly, or compare them for the matter, but sense you brought it up, that is true...Shadrock's stuff is like artwork, while konidias' is like a cartoon. Cartoons are fun though, and artwork is as well (hey, any game like SD3 or CT has artwork in it, and those are alot of fun).

Mine are meant to have a Graal feel.. with a hint of anime styling and a nice, pleasing to the eye look.

If I wanted to do secret of mana styling, and everything else, I could.. but I made the characters so they can easily be made by others and so other people can draw clothes and hair and stuff for them. I made them simplistic so they could be easily changed. When every single pixel on your character is a different shade, and it doesn't have outlines and stuff, it's going to be extremely hard to make seperate heads and have others do graphics that resemble it. :)

Thats reasonable.

For me, I just don't like having other people do work which I could do...heh, I mean, its not that bad to make head graphics, and there are shortcuts around.
