The problem with pm logs and screenshots is they are too easily altered. They can be used to support your claims but can't be considered gospel truth. Supporting evidence always helps which is why often a resolution that makes everyone happy doesn't happen. |

Sorry to pick on you Crono, I'm just using you as an example.
Hm...what if there was a way to tell the System NPC "Please route all messages from Gerami through you?", and then (for that connection only) it did? Solid proof beyond the reach of the average player without unduly compromising security. I would have Gerami's words in my log either way, and could hand them to the server's staff just as easily with or without the server, but with the added certainty of "The System NPC confirms this message." Conversely, could the System NPC run a complicated checksum code to attach to "monitored" conversations? Such as: Gerami->Tyhm@servertime 123987896 "Yeah whatever, your mom blows goats and I intend to destroy the server." is translated to HG78j695#77*, but only the server knows the formula to translate it (sender's accountname, translated into CHR$ code, * reciever's accountname, backwards, in CHR$ code, log(servertime), then chop the message into 3-character sections, multiply the first character by 512, add it to the second * 256, add it to the third, then concatenate the message like that) forinstance. Can't translate it back, but you can confirm that that message recieved at that time would be coded that way. This should probably live in Future Improvements. |
Hmmm well the server could theoretically make a md5 checksum of the pms sent, so if someone reports a pm to an admin then it would be possible to check if that pm has really been sent.

Would it be possible for the server to automatically attach the checksum as a "signature" to every PM sent through it? Not much point if I ask the server "What's the checksum for Gerami->Tyhm@servertime right now "Yeah whatever, your mom blows goats and I intend to destroy the server."?", 'cuz it doesn't prove anything aside from when I asked for the checksum...
