Chandler, you know I love you right? :) lol GST has always been a joke to me. Not really bothered about it.
|
I would probably nominate Inverness.
|
yea let Chandler do it. LOL

No, thus why I was getting on him about cutting the bloating. First the whole Graal Reform thing, now this. Somebody clearly wants to get noticed. |
I would also nominate Inverness (but he's mine, and no one else can have him :P).
If Maniaman wasn't so busy with other things, I'd nominate him too. |
Gawd, don't you all know that the only way to save the GST is by hiring ME? The great seraphim!!! /endnotnotsarcasm

I wouldn't want to be GST for three reasons.
#1. I do NOT like working (scripting) on other people's time, without a good reason. Though I have no problem assisting people I'm pretty sure if I was GST I would be on someone else's time. #2. Math gives me a headache. I maybe have some good ideas about systems and how to handle data, but fancy math scripts I do not want to take the time to learn how to use, though I have complete confidence in my ability to use them if I bothered learning how to. #3. Don't consider myself GST material. I may be above average but I'm not that good. |
I NEVER said I mastered GS2 what the hell...
|
I do not believe mastery of a programming language comes from memorizing every last function. You could know them all and still be horrible because you do not comprehend advanced algorithims. Good coding comes from your ability to find the best algorithim and have it happen using whatever functions you can.
You can browse all the functions a graal object has easily, so you can find what you need or what is best, no matter what your task is. Aside from nominating myself (ego), if Chad is still around, I would say Chad. I also second Tyhm. |

You can only learn scripting by scripting. I know at least I can only script by editing scripts (even the System NPC was just copy and paste...and Bowling was a joke).
But I still think that more important than Who's On the GST is What Does The GST Do? If they're using resources only available to a Global Team to work on projects that Only a Global Team could do for the benefit of All Servers Equally, it's a lot different than if they're Updating the Wiki and Answering Questions and Helping PWs That Ask Nicely. Granted, the GST can do a lot of good by updating the Wiki and answering questions, but that doesn't require even the slightest knowledge of scripting. It's just Kyle0654: Hey how does AddEmitter work? Can I get an example? Houdiniman: ? Not in the database? Huh. Hey Stefan? Stefan: [EXAMPLEBOMB] Houdiniman: Stefan says [EXAMPLEBOMB]. Kyle0654: Ok cool. And c'mon, Lycia could do that. (Oh burn!) On the other hand: Tyhm: Hey, why don't we have Baddies anymore? How are any of the servers supposed to make quests when they all gotta make their baddies in GS2 from scratch? Tseng: Huh. Hey Stefan, can I take a lookit the Kingdoms Baddies? Tyhm just sent me the ganis- Stefan: [EXAMPLEBOMB!] Tseng: Cool. *EDITBOMBANDPOST* Tyhm: Sweet! Hey Classic, I got us baddies! James205: Awesome, I can finish Master Li's quest! And all of Kull's except the final battle...oh wait, this script's wicked easy to convert, okdonelolz! Konidias: Huh, interesting way of using the Move command to detect walls...I can use this! cHANDLER: Awe man, I was gonna make my own...oh well, I guess this saves me the trouble. Zero33: Lolz, I can splice this with the Bush script so you can carry baddies! Chimpy: Woot, I made mine so if you use the Jump attack on them you can ride on their helmets and run them into walls! etc. |

Tyhm you've inspired me to create a classic style monster. Once I have a playerworld that is!

Eh, memorizing all the functions should not be a requirement for GST.
It's about knowing how to use the functions you know and any new functions you learn in the right way. Quote:
Zero has mastered, in his eyes, all the concepts of Graal scripting (in both GS1 and GS2). Every day is another day to find out a better way to make a certain script work faster, better and stronger. Hehe. I'm poking fun at you Zero, don't get too worked up :P |
I've always thought a GST is a guy who works for all servers. That and/or a scripting consultant. (i.e. "how do i do __")
|
I'd say either of the following: Okiesmoke, Novo or Jake [The classic guy, seen some of his scripting from Graal.net].

Mass' is or was? my favorite developer... :(

What happened with this?
I have seen Hell Raven on several different servers helping out, I think he'd be a great candidate as he actually helps people. |

First you might want to explain what "GST" means to half the kids on graal.
Do GST's even evaluate servers scripts anymore? (Like when a server wants to go hosted, they have to check out their scripts and pass them for that, or something.. It's been a while, can't remember exactly..) |
That was the purpose of this thread, Eronix. hehe

Here's my thoughts on the GST.
Thats my thoughts on it and as for a new Member, Napo would be awesome GST member, though he's most likely busy with Aeon right now. :] Hikaru would be pretty good too and so would Inverness. |

The only person I would even agree with on that list is Napo. Not because in Inverness doesn't have the skill, but because he doesn't want too. xD No comment on Hikaru, just will say there are scripters better than him that I think deserve it more. There are alot of scripters I quite think would be awesome for a shot at GST right now. Examples: Novo, Twinny, Hell Raven, Drakilor, Ziro, Maniaman, PFA, Twusk (You will be back buddy...:[), Chandler, OkieSmokie, Osrs. Just to name a few. |

should really be optional...otherwise you get the whole "Of course I was working on Era with my gf, she needs the help more than any other server!" issues. Plus there's the question of code snippets...it's a vital portion that's underused...it's too decentralized, uprooted, it's too much hassle to dig through the database for something Like what you need, copy and paste it, adapt it for your server, dig up the appropriate graphics, then find out it doesn't work anymore if it ever did in the first place...see: backups. Bah, if I had to give lessons I'd tear off my eyebrows. I'm available for advice though. And I am working on my RP systems, the Dialog thing is prettymuch ready for public but I want to improve the connection between the system and the GUI first.
I'm too damn lazy to be GST My new system is coming along nicely though, fixed up the reference parser so any mud object refs are converted to a string: ref:<type>:<id> when you save the object. And refs reloaded with the objects. PHP Code:

I see a GST as someone that helps, it's a benefit for them to know how Graalscript works, however I don't think they need to be very good at it to be in the GST. |
