The One Step Plan:
Offer a specific exception to the No Passwords For Ghosts policy, allowing newbies on Classic (and ONLY on Classic) to save their Quests Completed Status (and ONLY their Quests Completed Status). Possibly only to a certain number of quests completed. This will necessarily - make Classic official again - bring Newbies back to the game - raise Classic's playercount to its Free day levels - increase the playerbase again as Graal can advertise itself as a Free Online Game (with buyable perks like Saving Anywhere Without Passwords, For Life) - bring prestige back to the office of Classic LAT - bring responsibility to the Classic Admin Staff (as, with the eyes of the world on you, you have to at least Appear to be doing your job - I think those parties responsible know who they are) - bring in new talent - bring back old/in new quests - create a single iconic server again that Graal can be proud of. All without needing Stefan or Unixmad to do anything more than allow it. But it'll never happen. |

Although the cool thing for me to do would be to blame Administration and Globals driving me away from Graal, that was never really the case because I never really gave a damn about what any of them thought.
Although I still technically play graal (Mostly as a Developer/Manager of Babylon), if I wasn't Managing Babylon, I wouldn't be on Graal right now at all. This is mostly because of the disolving community. When I look back over my 7 years (7 years next week ^^ ), I have a lot of memories of times spent with my friends doing stupid stuff like holding live plays in the events house or holding auctions for something like 5 bombs. That was back in a time when people cared about Guilds, when Guilds had Wars, when Sparring meant something to people and when anything you did on Graal actually had a purpose. At this point, there is no community involvement. I log on every day and I see servers with people that are in it for themselves, getting the NPCs, sparring a bit, PKing a bit, but generally using Graal as a chat program. No one works together or anything like that, at least not that I've seen. I miss those days, those days when a total newb could log on and make a bunch of friends just by being there, instead of getting asslamed by overpowered idiots outside of the Start house or lagged to death by terrible scripting. Back then, (I'm thinking mostly of Enigma), we didn't need big scripts or badass levels to enjoy ourselves. I don't know what happened over the years, but nothing is like that anymore. I'd rather not spend all my time on a chat program with people that are only in it for themselves. That's what drove me away. |
The gameplay, it doesn't matter tough; I prefer to develop rather than play.

Why? Look at the count of abandoned official projects and the count of official graal developers. |
Lack of updates.
Decreased playercount. Horrible playerworld management all around from Global Administration down to the lowest FAQ possible. Less fun. |
Hopefully the admins look at this, and change their tune. Hopefully

"Haha, who will be next to be added to the blame list. Prior victims were Massokre, Ventrue, Storm, p2p and yes, even Bell.
-Bell" No just Hell Raven for me |

Sort of like the old offline, but much larger and perhaps a weeks worth of entertainment with set times and days each week with events being held (usual event house style events). Chuck in some spar rooms, and good quality instruction and guides, and it'll be perfect and purpose built! If no one does this I may have to do it myself at summer, but someone should really start it now >_< |

I understand all that, I just don't think it would ever fly.

Well if there's one server where newbies can play and save (somewhat) then eventually they are going to subscribe, which means more players buying the "product" as well as more players actually playing the game.

They would be better off relying strictly on Brand Loyalty, those of us who have stuck around even when things were bad. |
nothing drove me away, but we all know what keeps making me sad. :frown:

All my friends were going away and I was kinda poor :(
|
Lacking attractivity of gold playerworlds, hardly any good classic worlds, annoying people,
broken promises (g3d, and so on), missing development tools for linux... Should I go on? Its endless! |
-Admins' attitude towards their customers
-Lack of Mac Dev tools (and a universal client) It's too bad, they were getting quite a bit out of me yearly, what with VIP and my playerworld. |
