In 2001 there were tons, honestly, the big thing was scamming people by upgrading their accts to get their gralat on 2k1 and then reversing the charge on the cc.

Not so much now that the gold servers dont impress. Goes to show you what kind of a hold 2k1 really had on a lot of people.

Like I said, that is worst case scenario, and still good for the company.

One week of free gold time isn't much.
If players get one month free they might actually try to start playing GK or Zone and get some stuff on those servers.
After they've been playing there for one month the chances of them upgrading their own account again so that they can keep playing there and keep their stuff will increase dramatically.
It'll also help to keep those servers hustling-and-bustling. At the moment GK is pretty dead, if 20 players start playing there on their free month then even more people are going to start playing there (it's a pretty acknowledged fact that servers with the most players attract more players, while servers with almost no players generally stay that way).

Maybe if they were updated on days that are not holidays =!

Yes, yes, updates are important, content is important, but that's not the topic; referrals is the topic, and how well it'd drive traffic. Better than ads, I'd say, but ads are important too.

I agree with the delayed referrals system, that patches things nicely. Still have to keep people from referring each other in a loop, but...

Hmmm...when you create a new account, it Does have a field for "How did you find out?" and if you click Player, it asks for their accountname...so the framework's there...
Now if only it had an option for Server, we'd be all kinds of set. ;-)

yeah pretty much they dont like the idea so they will ignore it not get involved and theres nothing we can do about it.

they would have to be idiots not to do this though, 1month for a new player is a good deal, not to mention people suck at saying they where refered anyway so its an even better scam (like rebates)

Be interesting if Referred Players got a bonus too...like one week of your character being saved since you were brought in as Player2's guest.

With Global Gralats (see: the flash games), it seems pretty straightforward - refer somebody, get 500 gralats. Collect 2000 gralats by hook or by crook, trade 'em in for a free month of Gold.

graal can kiss my ass if they think ill do this for 1 week a referal. their content isnt exactly alot of fun you know. alot of times i sit and wait for events while doing homework or playing ouendan, my continued interest is because of player world designing, and it would be a waste of that time to go out and find someone to extend my deadline in a weak when i could be working to get things done.
