What do you mean? The old GTA games didn't have the same perspective. They were totally top-down.

It looks nice but the house tiles don't really look right.

The character determined the perspective and you could see the walls of whatever buildings were closest to him.

Is this for a SoG rip?

Darkyoshi12345 10-09-2006 04:46 AM

Now that you say that, it kind of does.

Stephen 10-09-2006 07:01 AM

Ok, now that we're done our flame war let's get back to our friendly discussion :)

The trees just don't look natural, they need to look more like they are actually growing out of the ground.

Yes, essentially. Even if you make a very nice 3D building and everything else 3D you will always meet this flat appearance... unless you use the 3D engine and that changes the game very dramatically.

This is not entirely true, there is a way to make graal's flat 2D engine look angled without an abrupt flat appearance.

It just requires new concept of level-design, and you wouldn't be able to really use gmaps in the same way..

For example..

http://www2.fileplanet.com/images/12...4090ss_sm2.jpg

In these images, the same flat 2D engine is being used, but the ground you can actually tread is actually limited, leaving the top portion of the level for aesthetic background space to give the area depth and the illusion of a 3rd dimension.

I've worked with this in the graal editor before, and taking into consideration that graal characters themselves are more seen from the side than from the top, with a bit of a tweak to the tileset, it looks fantastic.

Unfortunately, I am a graphic designer, and making these tilesets and styles is easy, finding someone to comprehend them and output levels for my server has been very difficult.

SoG? I'm assuming you mean sands of glory?
And, no, it's not.
I don't even know what you're talking about, since I made everything from my imagination. If it happens to look like something, what do you want me to do about it?
Anyways, it's for a server that will has actual innovative ideas. Not just a graphical variation on the idea of "level like mad, collect items, kill everything that moves"

warp2ukew 10-10-2006 02:17 AM

I'm sorry if I offended you, but it looks like a desert fighting scenario level/tileset lol.

Em 10-10-2006 06:38 AM

I remixed the colours and stuff

Demisis_P2P 10-10-2006 07:54 AM

I like those colours a lot more

maximus_asinus 10-10-2006 06:09 PM

The door still looks too small. Also if you look really closely at the grass/sand tiles you'll see a mistake around the edges. Hate the couch x-x.

zephirot 10-10-2006 06:17 PM

It looks too dark, if you ask me.

It's a test level for the tileset, not a LAT competition. :noob:

xXziroXx 10-10-2006 09:25 PM

On a level making note: GraalOnline - the only place where grass grow ontop of other grass!

Tom 10-10-2006 09:28 PM

One thing that came to my attention straight away is the repetative tiles on the house. And also the house has no character.

Indeed, it's a fairly plain box.

zim5354 10-12-2006 03:37 AM

I liked the sand alot more but the dirt will fit the idea better.

ToNy_W 10-12-2006 03:40 AM

Don't tell them about the "innovative" ideas, Em!
They're mine!

Em 10-12-2006 04:02 AM

Thanks for the great comments everyone, your thoughts have been very helpful. I will be making some modifications based on what i've read, such as the house/messed edges. I want to finish the water/hill tiles before posting more screenies, so gimme a couple days and il have more to show.

Maasharu 10-12-2006 08:49 AM

Sorry to res this sub-topic.

I like the top-down view, I also like how Graal is 2d. The main reason I even play Graal is because it feels like I'm playing an Online Super Nintendo game. That's why I have no interest in Graal changing to a 3D engine. It seems like you would be a lot better off playing World of Warcraft.
