Instead of everyone listing the reasons why Alt+5 was bad, I'd like to hear Googi's reason for why it was good.

Why was it so good/important that it needs to be added back?

I'll assume his reasoning will be "I want to see what head someone is using" or something.

The main reason I liked it was because it made it easy to get an NPC that looked exactly like a certain player. Although being able to easily find out what head or other attribute someone is using can be useful too (even if I rarely used it for that purpose).

Ya know what'd be fun? Character codes. Rilly simple to script...you can go the simple charcode=sword1.png,goldshield-2.png,head30.png,,,,,body.png,gray,orange,blue,gra y,blue;
or the complex huffman-encoded hexed
charcode=0C1AF21D01A83A3
where you trim the unused variables (held-item, horse, I can't remember what #C5-#C7 were anymore...I think #C8 was body), reduce all the swords and shields to numbered entries in a table (where sword1.png is the 209th entry, and goldshield-2.png is the 3058th), heads are trimmed down to just their number (which only works if people have been keeping with my hard-won syntax), then you do the same thing for colors as for shields...only 16 there, so you only need 1 hex value each...

but such things likely only entertain myself. After all, what good's a code like that with nowhere to translate it back, hmm?

...then again, if you had a code like that handy, you could hypothetically input it into the website and generate the graphic based off the server's copies of the relevant graphics...just layering images based on how they'd appear in the gani...kinda like HeroMachine, or the South Park Avatar Maker, ya know?

*BUMB* Add a recording feature so we can create movies easilly.

Tyhm 10-15-2006 11:03 AM

(So then we can advertise Graal on YouTube, and so the admins can make a contest encouraging us so to do...with as many Emulators as offer Record Movie support, it can't be that hard to find a sourcefile...)

Twinny 10-17-2006 01:44 PM

I remember the record feature. I used to make NPC movies for my wannabe server :D. Now i make wannabe servers on player worlds >_< . I don't remember it saving a level so that should be alright.

On a random note - Firefox v2.0 has a decent dictionary addition built in. Yay!

Crono 10-17-2006 02:44 PM

Just use fraps for Graal. Problem is that level editor drops FPS when you try to record it with fraps, no idea why. I mean I can record at 30FPS when playing F.E.A.R which is probably atleast 5 times more graphically demanding than Graal will ever be.

Twinny 10-18-2006 04:52 AM

Fraps doesn't give the script to move NPC's ;)

You're right. Fraps doesn't give you the script to move NPCs.

But do we want a movie feature that makes GScipt-Movies, or do we want a movie feature that makes .AVI movies?

Both are cool, rilly...

Tyrial 10-19-2006 01:00 AM

The Alt+5 function did save NPCs, it was scripts that it did not save.

jake13jake 10-23-2006 11:47 PM

Zooming would actually be cool as a scripting feature.
Alt+5 took the image and char properties of an npc, as well as the tiles of the level.

I really wouldn't mind alt+5. There just needs to be better communications between servers.

Except for it would have to allow people to download the images from whatever playerworld the character is on... It wouldn't be of much use if it only displayed graphics that you've already downloaded and have on your computer. Judging by the lag Graal gets now, and with such few players... having a feature where hundreds if not thousands of people are downloading tons of graphics wouldn't be too great... unless Graal got faster/better servers. Which cost more money.

Tyhm 10-28-2006 05:42 AM

Or if it still mirrors all the graphics on the webserver...*shrugs* I don't know how the servers are architectured these days, or how practical it'd be to move things around. If they start mirroring so some Hub World can get at their graphics, they can start mirroring so some website can get at the graphics instead...seems that way anyway...
In my humble opinion, the game server shouldn't be serving graphics anyway! Put the whole damn thing in a Pre-Loading Update Package! The end!

I dont know about you guys, but the server im planning could REALLY REALLY use a zoom feature, Im just saying it would be drop dead awsome if i could force a resolution for everyone that plays, it would make my server alot scarier and i wouldnt have to worry about graphics not fitting right for everyone.

Ragnarok_Returns 11-07-2006 06:50 AM

Your right Googi it was pretty good, helped a lot of people and was useful

Sounds like a play on the Flying Technology...
