You can't submit a support ticket about the support center being offline, because it's offline. Meaning, the error will go unreported because a ticket will never be received and our lovely customer service will be halted!

The only thing I am clear on, is that you cannot post a clickable link to anything that is not Graal related, but I am not clear on what that exactly means. Meaning, I dont know if Unix wishes to let members have links to their PW sites, or other things that are Graal related.
When I am clear, I will enforce.

I am hoping that when the new NGRT is finished, that non-graal related links will be allowed there.

It sounds to be like you are just doing preferential moderating. It's nothing to be ashamed of, but just admit that you are doing this because you don't want to enforce the rule.

There can be little question to what the rule states, even if it does sound crazy.

Projectshifter 03-28-2006 02:34 AM

Personally I think this rule is a little silly and should moreso be handled on a case-by-case basis.

Darlene159 03-28-2006 03:54 PM

Ok, to clarify. I talked to Unixmad, and this is the conclusion:

Linking your sig to an outside source (such as imageshack) is ok, as long as it is not clickable. If it is clickable, it must be to a Graal related site.

Graal related sites are allowed, such as sites for Playerworlds, they will be moderated for innapropriate content.

The no links rule does apply to the NGRT also, but will be allowed when the NGRT is moved to the private forums.

I will not be going back and removing links that were posted before this rule went in effect, but all moderators should enforce this rule from now on.

All links that are in signatures that are not Graal related should be removed, or will be removed.

So the only thing keeping us happy is the fact that *some day* in the future, we'll be able to have fun on the NGRT forums. Ah, some day.....

Good luck with that tell me how it works out, i am not getting my hopes up for anything, expecially relaxed moderation as weve seen graal is famous for only one thing and that is overmoderation.

Hmm, so this isn't a violation of the rule?

Why would you think that is NOT against the rules? Is that a Graal related link? Is it an outside link, not Graal related?

If it is Graal related, it is allowed, as long as it is appropriate.
If it IS NOT Graal related, it IS NOT allowed.

Blitz_Hunter 03-29-2006 02:29 AM

Wow, how retarded. Lets have a NGRT but not allow anyone to talk about anything not related to graal. Makes alot of sense to me. o_O

Why? if these posts will just be moved, they won't be breaking rules on the new forums, will you be putting them back then, or will all old posts go bye bye?
Or is ther no real plan for a new NGRT?
:megaeek: CONSPIRACY, I'm getting my tinfoil hat!

Maniaman 03-29-2006 03:32 AM

Yeah this rule is pretty much retarded, and i think almost everyone will agree with me.
What happened to that special NGRT forum we are supposed to be getting?

The Rule:
Quote:

c) You are not permitted to make external links if they are not pointing to a Graal site (wiki.graal.net , graal.net, graalonline.com ) . In some very rare cases, we may accept some links after being approved by a administrator or super moderator.
Look at my post again. I did not make an external link that points to another site.

OR! Here it is again:
http://www.killsometime.com

No link. Just text.

Uh, it is still a link, just not a clickable one.
A little bit of common sense would easily answer your question.

If you're going to gripe about people showing non-clickable urls in their posts, don't go around having clickable ones in your posts. "Common sense" would easily tell you that. :)

On a side note: I'm still curious about Unixmad's reasoning behind this silly rule.

PS. Technically it's not a link if it's not linking to anything. The wording of the rule is flawed if you expect to keep non-clickable non-graal URLs off of this board.

Malinko 03-29-2006 05:56 AM

Well, if the rules were followed in the first place, then the new set of rules which some people consider "strict" wouldn't be around, now would it?

Then again, it did allow for this new "relaxed" forum to come about, which is what people would like, so I guess it's a benefit.

Computer Science. A segment of text or a graphical item that serves as a cross-reference between parts of a hypertext document or between files or hypertext documents. Also called hotlink, hyperlink.
So a link is short for hyperlink, which the above is not
So, it's not against the rules.
I beleive the rule was created so people don't get linked to porn or some kind of prank. But with the effective moderation we hae, those posts would be modified, or the thread would be closed anyway, so why make a rule against all links? Afterall, if i wanted to make an actual link to dictionary.com, i'd have some difficulty

The rules have been modified for those who need it spelled out for them.
I'm not really hip to the whole internet url/link language. Saying No URL's to other sites other than Graal related sites should sum it up?

Yup, thats it, loophole closed.
Ah, what would these older people do without us young smartasses?
Oh well, we can wait for the new NGRT, until then, continue to renew! And if you don't, I'll call you back when it's up, if you're still interested.

So why are you editing rules as well? I don't see that in your list. Aside from that: I'm sure Unixmad wouldn't appreciate you sending dozens of users his way with a wave of, sometimes redundant/repeated, forum related questions. Wouldn't it make sense for you to weed through those first?

They understood it. You just changed it's meaning. But my point was that 'editing rules' wasn't in your job description.

An HTTP URL follows the pattern http[s]://host:port/path?query#anchor. According to the current rule, we get to paraphrase URLs. For example, "via your web browser you can open a connection to forums.graalonline.com (tcp port 80, but you know that), to send a request /forums/forumdisplay.php, passing forumid=84 as a query!" is no URL at all. Pretending it was not Graal related, it would still be technically allowed on the forum. Hell, we could even come up with a pseudo-format like path?query#anchor@host:port and it would be legal according to the rules.

What you probably want to say is "You are not allowed to refer to the internet apart from Graal".

Everyone needs to chill out. Give the staff some time to open the private forums, add new moderators, etc. Almost all of your questions have also been answered by moonie about 5 times and people still are complaining about the links and stuff...

You can post external links in the NGR forum when it is private. While you're waiting for that, I'm sure it will not kill you not to post any links that are NGR.

Have fun newbies.

External links relating from, or to a major company such as this will undoubtedly have an inevitable outcome. If something is not specifically clarified, or stated in the rules; a person may manipulate this nebulous topic.

I don't understand why anyone would even question that rule.

I thought of something funny. While watching a pepsi commercial, wouldn't it be great if, at the end, they would say something nice about coke?
Like: "....and coke is good too!"
Wouldn't that be the greatest business move?

Or maybe an xbox commercial could talk about how great ps2 is!

Think about it. Why would any forum of any online game that is a business (to make money), allow advertising of other onlinhe games?
Bad business move, if you ask me.
Just talking about other online games is advertising them. Think about it from a business point of view, or try to.
