I've just recently come back to Graal. I first started with getting into gaming again and then I played some other MMORPG's. Then I upgraded Graal and started obsessing. I just upgraded it again for those Christmas items too. Graal IS a game guys, and the way to deal with games is to put them in your freetime slot. If you have things you need to do in reality such as work out, study, etc etc, do all that first. And then when you have a freetime slot and don't have anything else to do.. go play Graal! Put on a timer if you have to.

|
I quit, but kept posting on the forums and still visited Val from time to time 'cos Clash rocks so much.
Now I've returned with gold, and am glad that I only subscribed for 3 months. |
I've played graal since ZO =(. I was 11 I want to say. Only played ZO for a bit then left, came back a few months later when it was graal, played classic, then Dino Valley, then Doomsday until DD closed. Quit for 2 years. I really truly thought I had quit for good until I heard about the DD revival. Came back to help, and now I'm completely addicted to GK and to helping DD get back up. Case and point, yes its addicting in my opinion.

<3 It's called subliminal messages <3

There is no one specific thing in Graal that makes it addicting.
It's what you find in the game that you really enjoy that makes you unable to quit. |
Graal is addicting and pretty much eternal because it's content is player-driven.
|
Graal Will never die becoues of stefan he is making alot more things ps if some one would make a vertrail game system i want to see graal be on it that would be cool
|
There is no doubt that there is much cruelty in the world, but addicting yourself to the Internet is no fair substitute and is very unhealthy.

You have mentioned it to me many times in the past, I am beginning to wonder how many people you know that are addicted to these things. There are many people who are not addicted to these things, and there are other things to do besides that, which are constructive. Don't you agree? I agree with you that making a playerworld is more self-expressive than watching T.V. all the time, or talking on the phone for hours, but at the same time, using the computer too much is not good at all for your eyes, your posture and neck, nor, Knorr, for your (lol) face-to-face encounters with people. |
Furthermore, there is evidence to suggest that Stefan is addicted to the Internet, and if people will step out of the darkness long enough to realize that if Stefan was not using the computer and Internet so much, they would probably lose interest in Graal very quickly.
So, while people claim that it's Graal which is addictive, they are much like people who eat for social circumstances only to find later that they were abusing their self after the social aspect of their life calms down. Why? Because they are literally following a certain person, and the object they thought was addictive may in fact be nothing more than a rouse. So, are people addicted to Graal, or are people simply addicted to Stefan and continually following in his footsteps of using the Internet too much? This is certainly up for debate, I do know that I used to use the computer too much, and I am sure I influenced people as well. I think there are a lot of people who keep doing this. People are addicted to people, and it's no different than a cult or a gang, even if it is under the disguise of the Internet. Similarly, people are stalking each other. Yes, it has become a family, but what concerns me is whether or not people are taking care of their selves sufficiently within this time. Are you eating too much? Do you get enough exercise? Do you try new things? Do have real life friends? Etc. I do know for me that what is probably the biggest benefactor to my usage of the Internet is the fact that the outer world simply doesn't supply my sufficiently with what I am looking for. I have not had much friends, girlfriends, boyfriends, whatever. I admit my sexuality has always been in question, and many girls whom I am attracted to but who I never had the strong enough desire to be with in a relationship have asked me out, and living in disguise and self-shame, I have turned so many beautiful girls away (beautiful both physically and/or in their personality). Similarly the greatest source of friends, including male friends, for me has been drug users. I myself have always been more spiritual, a free-thinker (I do believe in evolution, however, and I don't accept dogmatic religion anymore, I accept truth in every aspect of life), and I for some reason have been quite positive enough to not have a liking to drugs nor their addiction. However, I have turned to them in order to make friends, because, let's face it, I didn't have any other friends. So, one must ask their self, are they using the medium of the Internet to hide from the world, or to discover more of it? I think for me it was a little of both, though largely I still use it to meet people, because, well, I don't know. But I have to always be willing to give it up and step away forever, because if I don't, I am not happy. |
Your question, Antago, is does when one use the internet, do they become absorbed by it? The internet is now the most efficient source of communication (I include the communication of information), though it's also the least secure. Classic game models include solitaire and a simple game of tag. The computer allows one to play a game alone, or also to play a game that involves interaction with others. People that become addicted to the internet are often people that experience loneliness.
The internet also provides a means of creativity and productivity as Stefan has stated. Creating an environment for mass communication and interaction is very intriguing. People want to interact and have fun in a game. This is Graal's market, though I seriously think they could improve profits if they lowered the price of a classic subscription to $5. Nobody wants to pay for a game when there are other games just as good that cost nothing. Still, it's not impossible to play Graal and not be addicted to it. I'm more addicted to programming, and Graal offers a good medium for practicing, though if nobody pays me I'll probably just start making my own form of Graal Online. The people who develop Graal Online are usually amateurs, which gives it a severe disadvantage in the quality of labor, and which at the same time is a smart one; they're getting it for free. Oh wait, let me restate that, they're actually getting a profit from the development... and I doubt anyone could really make up their minds on whether that's really smart or really stupid. |
Most of things you stated have already been stated. Simply agreeing and elaborating might do better, for future reference. So far it is as if you are disagreeing (how you presented your post), yet as I read it, it was not in disagreement.

I have a great life out of the house, I hang out with friends and go to my local city to skate every weekend. Fun stuff. |
I thought I could quit Graal a few years back...
And here I am. Graal is the ultimate paradox. It's the best and worst thing in the world all at the same time. There are many affects on a player once a Graal addiction settles in: Slight loss of interest in pretty much all other games. They're just not as interesting once you've played something that you enjoy that much more. The feeling that the sense of joy comes from the sight of a small colorful stone and/or obtaining a new hat. For some reason I enjoy getting hats in any other game very much now also, especially in Animal Crossing. Lack of interest in real-life social activity. Once you become dependant upon Graal as your main source of social interaction, getting back into a real social life is near impossible. On Graal you can say what you want to people, and you never have to look them in the eyes or fear the consequences. You'll want argue with just about anyone on the subject of just about anything for no particular reason in general. You'll also find that it's much easier to do this on Graal than in real life- therefore, once you get used to acting this particular way it may become hard for you to stray away from Graal for large sums of time. Who else has literally had what would seem like withdrawals at one point? I remember the first time I was away from Graal for a long period of time--I couldn't get my mind off of it. I was itching to play Graal and I knew that I needed it to satisfy myself. That's just something that is hard to grow out of. |
It's addicting because of friends, and you can make stuff and show it to your friends.
I kept the friends and make stuff in other things, so I am not addicted. |
It's not very addicting, it's just a habit.
|
some ppl play out of boradom thats why i started but then i got good and still things to learn about so i may stay for a long ass time or untill the server dies
|
Honestly in my opinion if someone actually wanted to quit graal they could in a heart beat some choose not to because they are somewhat lifeless and have nothing else to do and yes I do include my self into that.
|
...Graal caused me an attendance problem in school I almost failed .... =/ haha damn I've been out of school for 3 years now, damn I've been playing graal for that long ....? :x

In all honesty, Graal is just a desktop game to me. You know, when you're logged onto msn or aim and you have nothing better to do so you boot up graal.
Makes sense. Am I right? |
I play Graal (more specifically Era) because it's a way to learn how to communicate better. I play Era a lot because I'm constantly trying to improve myself. I'm also trying to save up for a server, which adds a level of ceativity. XD Graal pwnz.

If you believe in that philosophy you better start grovelling to Stephane. So go buy your next plane ticket to Paris now. |

Fact is, my social life is fine I hang out alot with friends and I skate whenever with them. I found graal to be interesting because of the design. Small round characters running about frantically. That's what I wanted to see. I had always thought about an intense game like that, obsessively hitting each other with a pixelated sword. Rock on Stephane. |
im totally addicted to graal
