The difference is, a sunflower is a real thing, and the only "paladins" are radicals, and they have AK-47s, not swords, although there may have been paladins at one time, certainly not the same fantasy paladins as imagined by some people, they would more likely have looked like the average knight of the same nearby lord, minus his respective decorations. Which would probably look something like what I posted, an unmarked knight, wearing platemail.

Besides, the church wasn't so well funded as one might imagine in those times, and I doubt even nobility would have worn armors made of silver or gold or any other "precious" metals unless they didn't actually intend to enter combat in it, because those tend to be softer metals, not well suited for weapons or armor. Most armor and weapons were made of iron, and of steel, depending on which was more abundant or affordable at the time.

I think the churches were among the rich in that era? Wearn't they?

We're talking 1400s? :x Not really, they may have been comfortable, but even so, no one is stupid enough to go into combat in gold/silver armor, it's just not a very practical metal, it's too soft, and much heavier.

This is what I think of when I think of a Paladin, just the main parts.

Paladins thanks to google:

One again, all paladin's based on the artists perception, personally, I don't see that a paladin has to have shining armor and a cross on his chest, or armor at all for that matter, simply to fight for the church and it's beliefs alone would make someone a paladin, who said every paladin is trained with a sword, what about a halberd, or an axe, or a mace?

That's what I hate about fantasy, everyone is so cliche and generic about something that is called "fantasy" and then if your ideas don't fit the cliche, they are incorrect, even though we are still talking about fantasy.

My paladin was based on mid to late 1400s, when platemail was only becoming standardized, previously, most wore chain, at best.

Realistically, it doesn't matter what someone wears, you fight for the church and the virtues it represents, and you're a paladin. You could be wearing leather, and wielding a club, it doesn't matter. I created the guy on the basis that he would be a paladin, can't you just accept that?

Aethorpe: The guy could be a paladin, sure, but there is nothing to indicate that he is. That is the root of the disagreement. You are classifying the character depicted by the image. Everybody else is classifying the image.

Understood, but is the thread about classifying? :x I was putting an image up for display, not a title, not a name. Yet everyone seems to be so focused on the name, and not the graphics themselves. :x I even said "Forget I said paladin, just call him a swordsman." and the statements continued. I mean, ok, I get it, the popular view of a paladin is a shiny guy with a cross on his chest.

*sighs* :\

Everyone said something toward your art. We also said that he doesn't look like a Paladin. :/

Not really. But people are entitled to post whatever they want, within limits. And you did encourage them to some degree.
