Speaking of past management (i used to own sans)

One thing i learned was that ANY server
can have:
-cool npcs
-sweet levels
-fun quests
-a developing storyline

but it takes only a handfull of A-holes
and hackers to ruin it all in terms of keeping
the server online.

Even if the majority of the people
who are there enjoy the server.
which in case of sanstrata, they did,
they told me and everyone online at the time
in toalls and pm's.

Just a very few persistent hackers and
manipulative staff can
get on the nerves of the most patient people
and ruin it. And thats what happend.

Sans was no the only server to be taken
down becasue of hacking or staff troubles.
(dino valley? cant remember names of others)

anyways i know that these boards are
the public humilaiton place for graal,
and only sadistic people who enjoy being
made fun of or told they will fail ever
actually listen to what you cruel people say,
you know who you are.

the spirit of freedom from the past and determination
is alive and well.

Manager eh? So as manager why didnt you bother putting IP ranges in any of the RC's? Or give the FTP password to only a very select few who where trusted such as Levels admin etc.... You can blame every one else all you want but it only comes down to your own incompetence of command. If you had fired/banned and had tougher security measures these things wouldn't have taken place. I could see perhaps once possibly even twice. But not on an almost daily basis. The only person to blame for that is the managment. Not the staff and players.

prozac424242 03-08-2003 10:33 PM

i can tell you why the RCs were not IP range blocked;
because myself and others were on dial up modems
(i still got 56k) and with large ISPs like MSN, they have
so many possible connections that even the first three
numbers of the IP changes, and all four sets of number
change. You could set it, log off the internet. log back in
and be blocked, having to disconect and reconnect
from the ISP many times before getting on the same
first three numbers again.

In short, IP ranging does not work for everyone.
In fact, there are many who it does not work for.

I do admit that there were too many staff with too many
privilges, more than they needed. I made a mistake
many times back .. what now, a year ago?

Don and i have been talking about what went wrong before,
and to not repeat old mistakes. Rather, we are trying to set
a better foundaiton staff wise.

I don't understand this setting I.P. range stuff. What exactly is it supposed to prevent?

Donald, I think he's right. Games usually sell on graphics or names -- meaning they're sold on the first thing people see. People will still remember Sanstrata which might cause tons of people to just skip right over it on the server list. I wouldn't chance it, you say that the gameplay is all that matters to you so why bother keeping the name? The gameplay isn't what sells a game, it's the first impression -- graphics, names etc. Then if the gameplay is good people will continue to play it.

Your choice is to have the server and gameplay that you love back just with a new name and tons of people, or to have the same server and gameplay back with much less people.

Your graphics have improved a ton since you first started, good job :) Some of the tiles could still use a little touching up though.

I also think it's good that you're so determined to bring the server back, you've probly had to put up with tons of people that say it won't work. Well people said that about your graphics back a few months ago too and now they look great ^^ Good luck Mr. Donald.

It prevents someone other than you from getting on your account, if your IP range is set and NOT like this *.*.*.* even with your password they cannot access your RC. This is why it is so important the IPs are set and failure to do so will put your PW in jeopardy because we are told by Graal Admin if it is not done and something happens then your PW can be taken down for it.

I can tell what your getting at, but it looks like some sorta slime.

Kinatt 03-30-2003 01:47 AM

problem is your going for a 3d look on the mountain part, but the whole thing about it is mountains arent straight lines down they are rigid.. so you kinda gotta just change it some and would look ok.

Looks like the mountain terrain from Westwood's Red Alert 2 or Tiberian Sun shrunk down to about 1/8th the size...

If you're going to critisize something give a reason. Don't just say "It sucks..."
It's just disrespectful to whoever made the graphics :o

I like the grass tiles.
Although, the south end of the mound/cliff/mountain's detail looks too straight

I thought it was melting when I first saw it. ;| Although, that's just my opinion.
