Guys, this isnt rocket science, its making a playerworld.

Stick to the basics, you put stuff on a level, you attach the level, take a bath, and when you get back.. the magic fairies have completed your PW.

CyberX 02-03-2003 04:37 PM

Rob, try to make the character a little bit more similar to the Graal style. Because it seems like another game.

The point of this project from what I have read is to avoid the graal type and go in a completely new direction with the only similarity being duels and Engine.

The Body is just a templete but why try and make it Graal Style? I did that with our old bodies and people said I stole it from Oasis ;\

JrTerrorist 02-04-2003 03:50 AM

Everything is copied by something else somehow o.O

Yeah well, the whole reason I pointed it out, was because usually if it's just to test stuff, there's no reason to try and detail it and make it less pixelated and all that, unless you were intending on using it. You could have just left the FF Tactics guy the way he was and used him for testing. That is why I assumed the guy you were showing was what you were going to use.

Like I said, you should take a break from looking other places for ideas, draw some character designs on paper and stuff, and all will be well. We need something unique and new, and less rehashing of offline console games. Let's try to not go down the path that Graal went. Which was like 4 years of slow change from Zelda.

JrTerrorist 02-05-2003 01:29 AM

I didnt like the bodies because the guys walked left and right like they're legs were tied together X_x

We were gonna make original Characters. I always draw someguys in school, but I haven't gotten a good design for the angles etc yet.

JrTerrorist 02-05-2003 07:59 AM

School is literally one big art class, btu I lack art skills so um.. thats why I failed art. As long as the bodies arent like Renegade's im happy.

You must extremely suck to fail ART class. Come on, you draw a circle and you pass ;p

Kinatt 02-05-2003 11:42 PM

angles are hard? x_x you have to picture it in your head. Takes years or a natural ability to gain that particular trait.

O, Shavo wanted me to post this.. forgot.

JrTerrorist 02-06-2003 06:22 AM

Shavo = leet :|

magicbud3344 02-06-2003 07:04 AM

shavo may be able to draw but he;s a ***** >;[

JrTerrorist 02-06-2003 07:11 AM

But he's a leet, funny, scary, *****.

Anyways, those drawings look really good, and seeing those as actual characers would be REALLY cool.. and we all know Shavo can do it :X

Link188 02-07-2003 12:39 AM

Holy ****. I mean that even shows depth and texture within the squid/tentacle guy. Now THAT is 1337. =)

JrTerrorist 02-07-2003 01:41 AM

I know ;_; it makes me all leik wanting to see screen shots of shavo's gfx now.

Kinatt 02-07-2003 05:48 PM

Just because you can draw doesn't mean you can pixelate great.

konidias 02-07-2003 06:40 PM

LOL, those drawings aren't *that* great. Especially since none of those character really appear to fit a medieval fantasy type game. They all look futuristic. Especially the one on the far left.

It looks pretty cool.

The 'monster' to the far right is from FFT though. :|
Although, he probably wanted to draw it that way.

Um, the squire... uhh... pictures speak louder than words? I don't think there are any futuristic squires. ;)

Koni, I serious thought more of you than that..
1) Did you read the part about the templete?
2) Does our server have to run off of the way our planets history went?
What I'm trying to say, we're not basing our Server of of a time period.. it's all fantasy.

SSRobgeta 02-09-2003 02:24 AM

Project is over.

I can't work with Shavo cause he is PMSing 24/7. I asked him to finish his sprite sheet by teh end of the month and he went berserk on me. Then he said I wasnt' doing anythign yet, but I couldn't cause I had no GFX to work off of... SO basicly this wouldn't work..

I'd be willing to use my ideas with some people who were dedicated in work, but Shavo wasn't. It's ashame, cause his GFX style is 1 out of a million.

konidias 02-09-2003 05:06 AM

At least it happened before you wasted anymore time on it. If you want to make a successful playerworld, you should spend at LEAST a month in planning and design. If your project is cancelled in the same thread that you announced the creation of the project, it's showing that you're lacking the stuff that it takes to make a good playerworld.

Everybody thinks its a walk in the park until they are actually working and then they either slap stuff together and think it's great, or they cancel the project. There is a ton of effort that goes into making a playerworld, and unless you can do everything yourself, you need to make sure you have staff that are as dedicated as you are.

I'm sorry about the medieval comment. It's just that your project looked disorganized and doomed to fail from the start, I just didn't want to see you wasting time because you didn't prepare for it. A tip even I should have used from the start:

Don't announce your playerworld until you are into serious development or further. Meaning don't announce it the day that you get the idea for it, and don't announce it the moment you have a character drawn, or a first version tileset drawn... It's nice to do, and I did it that way, but it's very hard to keep working once you put yourself on the pedastool with everyone else.

He told me you asked him to finish a spritesheet by the end of the month, when he wouldnt be able to do it (at his best gfx) untill like half of next month.

Yes it was, but you misunderstand. It's not gonna be HALF COMPLETE or Exactly the same. Basicly it's getting a facelift and coming back complete. So Far we have a exelent start!
