I'd have to agree. Everything looks fabulous minus the characters.

having some sort of sword-style that would be able to compete with guns would be a good change - on era, you could only get that katana or axe or whatever (not that i ever had enough money to actually get one, i think i had one once and it was given too me) and really, they didn't seem to match up well against machine guns that cover the entire level giving you no option but to be hit. i always wanted to run up on the idiots of era and slice them in the back somehow, but all they would do is run away as they shoot at me, and not ever having any guns, i was left with no option but to run away - you couldn't even kill a player with two hits from the katana anyways

it's also the atmosphere of the server that is very different. having these predetermined local gangs/families or whatever really puts me off since classic servers have almost always had (however insignificant) a deference to global guilds. if bloodvayne has to be a local guild, i probably won't play it since that's my family and we've had tags since 02

in addition, there was never any reason for me to horde items on a classic server aside from those items i actually wanted (my skull hat for instance) - you complete the quests and then your character is complete and you can do whatever you wish. in modern servers, you have to do pointless mining expenditures or picking flowers or some *** **** so you can buy ammo or whatever just to get your character up to it's maximum efficiency. i sometimes like to log on for 10 minutes at a time and spar or PK and then log off - i don't have to go sharpen my blade, which forces me to go mining for like 20 minutes or some other idiotic chore to do so

@cloven, keeping this "style" limited only to events would also put me off, as i would have to go through the routines just to participate, and only sometimes (when the events were held) would i enjoy it. i'm all for having guns on a server, but limiting things only to guns while playing normally would make it no different than era is currently, functionally at least

then again, i'm just biased about gameplay on graal in general. i doubt many share my views ):

I personally don't think swords should be an option. I doubt that 1930's Chicago with its black market booze and turf wars of the mafia included such weapons. Knives or chains maybe but thats about as far as it would go.

If you're trying to stay within a style then I think you should adhere to that.

Please note, the bodies you see on the server are an example, for me. Sage and I were talking about custom bodies, and I didn't quite understand what he meant. So to show me, he put these on. The ones you see now are NOT official.
The ones you MAY see, are going to be completely custom made, for the 1930s look. Not only will they be detailed incredibly, they will completely customizable to YOU, as the player. Upon starting mafia life, you may (Depending on, if we keep them or not) being your life, by making your character. Custom down to the eye color.

I think it will go far, thats pure ambition and determination... most of all he believes in him and his staff. That makes it all the more promising.
Lets hope he doesn't go too far and lose his head when he's reasoned with, like some people.

I'm sorry I seem like an "ass" to you Chris, but stop acting like a kid. Nobody was being negative. As I read through all of the posts, only you are. I was only commented on the fact that Era is, sadly, dead. It was fun, but it did fall. It's not a bad thing that Mafia Life may be better, by far. But all in all, I wish you luck with Era, but Mafia Life will be so fun :)

To be perfectly honest in different ways you both are being wrong, chris, you're pretty much instigating this fight, and Izarius you're allowing it to happen by trying to type what you think. I wish the best to Mafia Life but I think the manager of Era can at least be less childish.

Yeah, movement is still undetermined just yet, so I'm not very sure as to where I'll take that type of thing. But yeah.. I'm not very sure of the bodies just yet, some people like them, some people don't.. but the thing that makes them awesome is they are completely customizable from head to toe, you can alter up to 14.. ? individual pieces of the character to make them look different (Yes, including your skin color)

And uhh, Rogue, bite your tongue. You know nothing about the server, so don't speak until you do. Also, you should really be the last person to talk about quitting on something with your track record. :noob:

I know this is a dumb question and really not all that... relevant but will there be anything vanity based? Such as... maybe fashion or pets or anything small and fun for younger aged and things like that?

Well, I think sage made a good choice on joining the Mafia Life Team, if he didn't we wouldn't be where we are today. This forum post wouldn't exist, and the excitement for this server wouldn't be around, without sage. So I congratulate Sage, on being the Developer for ML, and bringing Mafia Life, to Life.

Just advice on someone you've only worked with for a very short time. I can see what Chris means when he says dont be an ass. Maybe some of us just read what you say in a different tone, but it sure seems it should be in the tone im reading it at.

Edit: I also appreciate Sage's work hes done for me and Decus. Just saying, hes supposed to be an admin on Armageddon for the last month or so.

Well considering that I've already explained the situation to Decus about what was happening with me being the Admin, what you're saying doesn't really come into play. I never said anything about irl problems getting in the way, although there have been minor things that have been preventing to get on as much as I want to, that isn't the issue. So if you want to talking about me "being the admin", you should talk to Decus. I have a priority with Mafia Life which I am going to fulfill before I work with you guys again. And you can't say anything about the past because I did a ****load of work for you guys regardless of what you say. =/

Those are probably the best custom bodies I've seen on Graal (although there isn't much competition...Atrius bodies, lol). You'll need to make the walk animation (and other defaults ones like pull) before it's clear how they'll actually look in-game, though.

I love the look of the server, the graphics and such, but the overall premise I'm not so fond of.

To me it sounds like you're trying to create your own Game on Graal, rather than creating your own piece of Graal. I read through it once, and I'm willing to believe I missed the overall point, but I think the main aspects of your server, unless they are strictly enforced, will eventually fall apart and the whole server will disolve into people killing people with guns, just like Era.

That's kind of the whole concept behind the whole "Oh it's another Era." It's not that people are making the same server, it's just that no one remembers that you're developing on Graal. We have an EXTREMELY small player base, which is limited even more by by who your target playerbase is, that doesn't have the focus to follow family guidelines or collecting from stores or stuff like that.

Same concept as to why Role Playing on this game doesn't work anymore. People won't follow guidelines if there's an easier way around them, and if you enforce guidelines, people move away.

It's easy to say that your server looks pretty and sounds interesting, it's a whole other story when it comes to what's reasonably expected out of it.

I wish you guys the best of luck, and honestly I do hope it works out, but I'm just not optimistic that a server like this could be overly successful over a decent period of time, and my opinion is unfortunately helped by history.

I don't because the characters (especially the head) aren't contrasting well with the tiles, and have pretty terrible shading if I'm honest. Trying to do something different (such as the absence of outlining) is great and all, but it just isn't working here. The default body and head styles are way more appropriate for the setting; why not just take them, tweak them a little, and base your FULLY CUSTOMIZABLE body system around it? Think long-bodied 2k1 with changeable pieces.

Haha, this is a great comment, because I FORGOT to mention (But I think I did in earlier posts)...Everything is interchangeable. You will be able to select MANY different combinations.

Eye Color/Style
Hair Color/Style
Clothing Types/Colors
Facial Features
Hats
Skin Color
And many more =]

But all of this can be achieved with default heads/bodies too

But, in doing this it does give some sort of boundaries when it comes to "RP" for example, you won't see a blue fish walking around in a family called Zormite. =] No offense :P

So you think One family will take over everything? This is impossible. Please take note, every building is Capture-able. There will be many families fighting for everything, now if multiple families, are fighting, for all property...They can't defend it all either. But, if one does somehow manage to do it, I'll give a Cash reward.
