The Notorious B.I.G

Notorious is actually an adjective... z_Z

That's not unorgininal in any way.

Also I think it's better to use unoriginal names in some cases, since people will never join your server if it's called:

"Wagabuhundula"

I have to agree. Pure originality is not always a good thing. However, pure unoriginality is also not a good thing. I think a playerworld's name should subtly express what it is about. How does Notorious or Noctorious do this?

NOTE: I do know that most servers do not do this, but it's worth trying to encourage those who don't have their name set in stone.

I think thats called reversed psychology :P so the name and the server have absolutely nothing to do with each other, that way you remember them more easily, its pretty unlogical but logical at the same time!

I could say something pretty arrogant right now...
If I called my server Whahghaghagah, people would play it.
You'll figure why...

A name makes only a small percentage of the server, it is supposed to represent though, but it isn't the server itself.

There's a saying that fits to this I think

Never judge a book by its cover

Pelikano 05-27-2009 08:34 PM

Do you guys know what Notorious mean? :S

I'm not saying judge a book by it's cover. I never said a name MAKES a server. Also, you're views on how a server name is remembered is rather, well, flawed, though holds some grains of truth.

Let's take some examples of names of some pretty successful games/game-series:
  • DOOM - One word, very easy to pronounce. So simple, it just sticks. Even so, it fits the atmosphere of the game. I remember when I was a child and I played DOOM, there was always a sense of incoming doom, around every corner, through every door.
  • Final Fantasy - Use of alliteration, so it makes it stand out and stick. Also, isn't Final Fantasy a, hrm, fantasy themed game?

Either way, if the server was perfect in every way, we'd remember the name anyway. However, wouldn't it just be the icing on the cake to have a really cool name as well?

that's what I meant with small percentage of the server itself, the icing on the cake, but I agree with you :P

Deas_Voice 05-28-2009 08:38 PM

Noctorius of course, silly.

it's the current name, it should stay that way, unless you want to re-name all levels that starts with noc_* or all the scripts?

This can be done in about five seconds using either the command prompt or GS2.

Uh no.

No one would ever play your server if you were the Manager.
Because everyone knows that you'll abandon it after a week.

You're good at graphics, how would you script? LAT? Do you really think you'd get Staff after that **** with Crystia? And all the other Servers you abandoned?

Haha, you made my day.

If you have anything against Crystia, I would like to hear about it, as I abandoned it as much as Elk did with it =/

I don't get it. Servers are hard to build without quality manpower and support from the community, yet you (guys) complain at us for not having enough freetime and time to work on it, or that we simply get tired of doing everything alone.

And to point at your ignorance, Crystia lasted way longer then a week. I would support Elk if he made a server. I had to stop working for a while on Crystia because of school, and that was my main reason. Other reasons, as mentioned earlier, was lack of manpower and support.
