When was the last big update? Quit thinking that just because something major is finally being worked on that it's a sign from the Gods.

Googi 10-07-2007 04:35 AM

Updates don't/won't do much to increase playercount. Old players come back and check out the update, then once they've fully checked it out they get bored, stop playing, and go back to complaining about a lack of updates. Unless you're going to release updates every week, they aren't going to do much for playercount. 2K2 is already a server with content that gets people to play for 1000+ hours. It doesn't need more content, it needs to get and keep new subscribers.

Ravenblade1979 10-07-2007 05:59 AM

getting new subscribers is good but you need new content. GK only has so much then it gets boring to people.

It takes a pretty big piece of new content to get people to play for even 10 more hours than they would otherwise. The economy and core structure of the server is what's important for getting hundreds or thousands of hours from the players.

School is the main reason I have not been playing. It would be nice if my hours didn't tick away when I am not online.

Server needs a reset, yet stefan does not want one for some reason. Even though he doesn't play...

Because it wouldn't accomplish anything except to bring a few people back for a few more weeks and then have them leave again.

Because that may only bring in 6 people while losing the 20 active players

Until GK can survive without the need of constant staff attention, and by that i mean item distribution wise. I do not feel that a reset will accomplish anything other than restarting a 5 year cycle that will lead to the same conclusion we are faced with today.

1) Lack of updates
2) People complaining about lack of updates but when given a chance to help make new content totally blow it off with some dumb excuse (minus school) and then complain more about no new content.
3) No new items (yeah like we need the usders to come back again just for this)

Kind of tired of seeing the same reasons over and over again for why GK is failing... So let me put things in to perspective for you.

Initial Failure
  • GK was never completed to the standards that was planned.
  • The system was half-assed and borrowed from Crossfire.
  • Lack of talented trustworthy developers on Graal in general.
  • Lack of players on Graal, period.

Continuing the Reign
  • There has been several attempts at a ruined economy by several staff, including some of the current ones.
  • There have been little-to-no attempts at a working economy, sometimes communistic controlled-economies aren't going to save a server.
  • Lack of event prizes in ratio to the amount of players that played GK.
  • Lack of items which can be obtained outside of trading and events, of course, too many of these items would break the economy.

The Death of the Beginning
  • After 2006 rolled around, GK began tumbling faster than a boulder. With the lack of knowledgeable administration (one isn't enough [bjorn]) there was nothing to stop it.
  • Studies have shown that any economy that hasn't been stimulated drastically in some way, commonly fails and creates famine within the community. In the case of the US, the Great Depression is our stimulus, as for Germany and other European countries, I am not sure.
  • The economic values of GK have fallen, risen, and it's all controlled by a group of people, which is a controlled-economy. Controlled vs Free economies are always very due for unsuccessful results.

Now, Here We Are
  • After the lack of care, attention, and stimulus provided to the GK economy, here we are, scraping for something to keep players (FAQ, small 'battle island' updates, etc), none of which will do anything to help playercount grow.
  • Here we are scrambling to find the causes behind the true reason GK has suffered tremendously... I remember a couple years ago it never got this low during school time.
  • There are few-to-no people to blame for the irrepressible economic damage that has been caused, the blame goes to people for not doing anything to stop it.
  • These economic values can be fixed with careful planning and participation, but it won't be easy.

Are you ready to fix GK?

Tig for full developer, yet?

Monsters. We need more monsters with MORE Exp.
We also need to make it either a) easier to kill monsters or b) easier to get better armor.
We still ALSO need to get those Christmas and such items out to players so it's more fair. "I wasn't here for the stuff when it came out" isn't fair.

Don't be ridiculous.
