Just use replacement graphics :D

Most staff members can pull of a decent level. It won't exactly be awesome but it will work. The same can't be said for scripts ;)

Besides: what's to stop a nat from using the terrain generator to make a nice map? ;)

You need a tileset to make a level, replacement graphics still need to be made lmao.

You can use the default tileset for a while. Saying that you still need replacement graphics is exactly the same as the fact that graphics still need scripts.

You can, however, make an interesting interactive server without graphics.

ganis and gfx...you all will enjoy my theory. Graphics take care of customizing everything. And ganis do the animation and scripting...because you can add scripts to a gani

The game comes with a ton of global graphics. Also, anyone that can print screen and cut and paste can make a basic graphic out of anything on the tileset.

Also, with scripting, you can draw basic objects, create NPC characters, ect.

Yes scripting opens many windows, only if i knew gs2 better

Without LAT's your server will look like Zodiac or the really bad parts of Valikorlia.

Hahaha so true man.

If anyone thinks its a good idea to create levels using a script please give up on ever being any kind of staff. The only script that should be used for making levels is the Level Editor.

HolySheepy 07-20-2007 11:39 AM

There are some other situations where using a script for "making" a level is good :P

Such as when you want to screw over the default tile structure and make your own. Maybe space? Maybe isometric tiles.

I'm biased as a scripter, but I have to say NATs.

This is because without a scripter, you will go NOWHERE. You cannot change the tileset, you cannot make weapons, you cannot make anything. You can have levels and graphics, but they cannot do anything. Without scripts, your server is stuck.

DustyPorViva 07-20-2007 07:01 PM

Just to note, GAT's/LAT's are capable of changing the tileset without an NAT doing it for them.

MysticX2X 07-20-2007 07:55 PM

They all are important =/. Seems like some thread to praise people.

An LAT can make a complete server without scripts and with the default graal graphics. This would still be pretty crappy, since there would be no unique scripts or graphics.

A graphic designer can make an awesome tileset and custom bodies etc. The scripts would suck and so would the levels.

A scripter can script unique NPCs. However, the levels would suck and so would the graphics.

So basically, those areas of development are most important =P

Ganis are not really a problem. Most people can get by with the default animations.
