This is a discussion forum. I do not think that you should be able to prevent me from discussing a topic. The rules still disallow the continuation of closed threads.

I just ignored everything you guys said and will put my input on it.

NO.

If a thread starter starts an argument and is losing, he'll close it. If someone who female dogs at everything is the thread starter it will be closed. Just, no. No, seriously, no.

can't you already delete your thread for a day after starting it?

Milkdude99 09-17-2004 11:39 PM

as long as it is done within 24 hours yes, after that no a Mod has to.

Now for my opinion. If someone does close it prematurely because their a **** they could make it so that person doesn't have those rights with their posts anymore. I think that being able toc lose your threads when they stray offtopic or server their purpose would be very useful.

I seriously doubt it will happen considering it will create more problems then it is worth

I'm not talkinga bout deletion, i'm talking about closing, i agree that delting their threads anytime isnt good but closing them is.

That is what the Moderators are for not the Members.

falco10291029 09-18-2004 04:05 AM

well u dont want to always have to have a moderator have to close your threads for you, and they wont always do it either. That's why you should be able to close your own threads

The mods close them, if there is a reason to close them, as it should be...Members need to be sure they are ready for the consiquinces when they make a thread, not be able to close it simply because it didnt get the resonse that the creator expected, or people dont agree with him/her.

Unfortunately, neither of these cited reasons ever have been or ever will be wholly valid reasons to close topics.

So, bearing that in mind, there is no need to add such a thing.

Further -

If a moderator won't close a thread for you, there is quite probably a good reason. This goes hand-in-hand with what I just said.

i mean for whern they don't checl the posts quickly enough saying you want it losed or a pm saying that so the thread becomes a spam factory because there is no point left to it. And by straying off topic, i mean it's likea few pages of VERy off topic things, like you are talking about a bug and on page 3 and 4 it is all about cheeseburgers, that deserves closing.

Dach 09-18-2004 08:01 PM

Giving members just about any moderation powers causes more problems than it will solve. If you won't understand that the moderators can do their jobs on their own, go with that.

*sifts through bad spelling/grammar*
I'm pretty sure that when there are several pages of spam, moderators can and will remove spam and close the topic if it has served it's purpose (everyone involved in said discussion is done).
