The walls look bad (at least I Think so but some people might like it) Floor looks bad definatly recommend not going with that design. The sand and water and grass is just wierd and has no logic to your indoor design. (then again nothing looks really logical) Yellow carpet is wierd. Why are the tables overlapping like that? You think some one would known to give them a little bit of space when they where moving funiture.

I know this is really harsh but the level just isnt salvagable. Not unless you break it down to just the outline and completely retile it.

In short the level is Chaos.

0/10 (like my first real 0 for a finished level)

Now I'm not saying you're necessarily a bad level maker. Just that this level particular level is really bad. I recommend going back to the drawing board . As a word of advice levels are generally better if they have a sense of logic and order like its supposed to be there. Everything you have no makes no sense of why its like that it looks more like random stuff running rampent.

martigan, what happend to your server if u aint playing graal anymore?

StalePhish96 10-16-2003 05:33 AM

the floor is just wrong, 4/10

I find it rather interesting that seveal people that are critiquing couldn't make a decent level to save their lives.

You don't have to know how to do something to know whether or not it is appealing to the eyes.

Do you think the movie critiques could make a movie?

Have you ever noticed how widely despised, and unreliable movie critics are?

An actual level maker can fully understand the posibilities the medium provides. They can also give suggestions so that the level maker can improve his work. Do you think a newbeh can offer advice on one of your scripts?

Zethar 10-20-2003 12:45 AM

I think anyone can spot tile errors or notice if something looks bad.
BUT
People who don't make levels shouldn't be saying....CRAP, delete it ect.
Draygin, makes levels and he critizes harshly, which I think is good because he points out the errors and how to fix them ect. unlike other people.

syltburk 10-20-2003 04:32 PM

I think you used floor tiles wrong, there isnt much i like in this level, but

3/10

Scripting goes beyond outer appearance.

I don't do levels but I certainly can spot a tile error.
I can also tell if I like a level, half the players who play Graal are not level makers, yet they notice whether or not the server they play on looks nice level-wise.

As does level making. What may look good to someone, may look horrible to someone else. In other words, the level might have a much deeper meaning then that derived from a glance.

But yes, I do agree that anyone can spot a "tile error". But, what if it was an intentional tile error? Maybe the error was placed there out of stylistic preference.

That would be called an opinion on likes.

With scripting there is no opinion on how it is done, there is only one way it is done.

Levels can be made with style, scripts can not.

That is completely absurd. You should sit down and look at several scripts from different scripters. You will notice that some scripters use arrays, while others use flags. Some prefer to use several functions, while others do not. There are several approaches you can take to make a script.

Scripts may output the same result, but the scripting itself is not always efficient. Scripting isn't judged by it's appearance, but on how efficient the scripting is. On the contrary, levels are judged on their appearance, which is why everyone has different ratings for levels.

These two statements contradict one another.

Regardless of whether it is effiecient or not, there are several ways to script something. There is more than one way to script something, and still be efficient.

DustyPorViva 10-21-2003 12:25 AM

The second statement was more of a correction to my first.

ZeroFXSM 10-24-2003 08:14 AM

Stop Talking BS.

Look, hes asking for opinions, it doesn't matter who its from, its an opinion. So just leave it at that.

You see a painting on the wall, you don't paint, but you are still able to give your own rating and opinion.

El Fin.
