I still like Chrono Trigger the best of the SNES RPGs. The worldmap tileset is unmatched and the outside tiles look nice. SoM 2 is good looking as well but I've never played it so haven't really seen much. Screenshots look promising though...
FF3/6 has a pretty ugly tileset. |
SoM is better in my mind, but FF6 did have some amazing pixel work. It worked well with the story.
I always thought the floating island was really awesome. http://img828.imageshack.us/img828/1...tasycharac.jpg By the way, when are we getting background images? HUH? |

FF6 was one of the better looking games on the SNES, but I don't think it compares very well to SD3. SD3 did everything right. Great settings, awesome tiles and no apparent grid at all, fluent and amazing sprites and animations, and a lot of variety. FF6 had some great tiles(the cliffs especially) but the animation was stiff and primitive, and some things didn't tile so well(like floor patterns and stuff). Still a great looking game.

Clocktower had some pretty good graphics.

Is any of this applicable to Graal or are you just babbling about the ~evolution of a pixel artist~
I mean there is a lot of places for Graal tiles to go before you bother getting as detailed as real SNES games, like just looking at colors and **** |
