There is definitely more uses for the balloon-tech than just ballooning. I know this for a fact ;) The technology is pretty interesting - I'd say it's definitely more about the novelty than the functionality... and really, this is a video game, not a corporate office - I expect novelty.

Well, would you not have to take into account weather, birds, etc. etc when flying? I dunno. Just in my own little world right now.
